The first version of DX: RolePlay Coop mod is about to be released. In few words, it lets you play single-player mode online with friend/s. You can find more about it at (
www.dxcoop.info)
It's currently in alpha. The technical fundamentals are pretty much finished but there are *tons* of bugs and it crashes sometimes. So don't expect stable games, it's not really playable yet.
I'm looking for beta testers. Your task will be simple, playing the mod with others and writing down bugs when you find them. You can play whenever you want, with whoever you want, and as much as you want, we just need some bug reports.
See this thread if you want to become a Beta Tester:

Then this one to download files (check the installation instructions too):

Anyone interested?

Sure I'm interested, just to see if it can be done.
Doing the "possessing npc" thing seemed to work okay for Perfect Dark (yes, much much more linear but still). Ill hunt out my CD and give it a go.

Is that how this is doing it? I don't see that indication in the OP, and I'm on dialup doing other things, so I can't hunt too much or download it right now...

I should really let switch explain it, but...
The original problem with the concept of coop DX was that there can only be one JC, one player doing the talking, messing with the plotline threads. The workaround here seems to be having the other player possess an npc grunt or similar while the primary player assumes the role of JC as normal.
In perfect dark it was similar in a sense, though the more I think about it the more vague that similarity becomes.

I've a question.
How would you resolve certain NPCs attempting to approach and talk? They'd only talk to JC, right? Would the gameplay freeze and swap to JC's view in the middle of the talk?
What if the possessed second player shoots and kills this NPC before they even see JC and think of talking?

I'll try to do my part :sly: , I've always wanted a co-op.

DaBeast: Yeah, possessing ingame NPC's and roleplaying them is a key feature of this mod.

RolePlayers can't engage in conversations with NPC's currently, because nearly all of them were written with JC Denton in mind. The gameplay never freezes, but when you're playing as JC Denton and begin a conversation, you'll be in conversation mode like in single player. Roleplayers can do whatever they want while JC is in conversation mode, conversations don't affect them. Currently you can't hear them nor see the subtitles as a roleplayer. At some point you'll be able to hear/see them but it's a low priority feature.
When roleplayer kills a NPC, it's permanent. Conversation won't happen.
TharisfalPS: great, here's (

Oh this sounds excellent, with the right kru to play with. How would connection work? Simply advertise using the built-in hosting?

Currently there's no master server support, it's not like DXMP. You find a person/s willing to play with you, someone creates the game and others connect to it, via ip number.

How's is going with coop? Man it'd be a riot if you pull if off.
For the present, does the 2nd player hear the convo taking place?
