Deus Ex Re-Texturing Project needs YOU! (if you're a texturer or modeller/animator) As you may have guessed by the title (slightly cryptic, I suppose) there is a project in the works to make high(er) res textures and high-poly models for Deus Ex. I can't see how this wouldn't have been discussed before so let me make a few things clear:

256x256 limit - Yes, it still exists, there's no way around it; all DX textures are limited to a maximum of 256x256 pixels. However, many of the decoration skins (the Datacube for example) were found to be a mere 64x32. There is a lot of room for improvement, and whilst it won't quite reach modern standards, it's better than nothing.

Performance - A fairly important issue with DX, considering the slight inefficiency of 1st-gen Unreal tech. However, a test was conducted and out of a good 10-15 people, 5 4000-odd poly models at once had no noticable impact on performance. So that won't be an issue.

Implentation - The way the mod is being implemented is through scripting/mutator i.e. no game files will have to be replaced. We've discussed the cheap option and we were all in favour of this instead, to make uninstallation easier in case of problems for one thing. It has been tested and is perfectly possible, so this is the route we plan to take.

Support - the 20 page thread on the ION Storm forums speaks for itself. In fact, I've just been informed that we've been featured on PlanetDeusEx - things are looking good.

Yey! Deus Ex has a Rebirth/HighRes Texture mod too :thumb:
I'd help but I'm still a mediocre modeller and I have my hands full in the Citadel Conversion Project's (CCP) models.
