I bought DX: IW but the performance of the game in my computer is bad, really bad and I want to know what I have to change in my PC to make the game run properly.
I’ve waited for this game a long time and now I want to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first one. Sorry for my English.
I have a:
Pentium 4 2.6GHz
1024 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5200 128MB
I have the latest drivers upgrade from nvidia homepage (v52.16)

I remember Dave saying the 5200 FX cards are rather a pissy quality and that the FX line doesn't do as well as the new ATIs.
Patch it, kill unneccesary programs and (

Before you do anything else, get the patch. Also get the latest nVidia driver and DX9 if you don't already have it.
Then set the resolution to 800x600, turn off bloom and vsync, multisampling on 1, shadows on medium, everything else high. If performance is still poor, turn shadows to off. Turning off dynamic shadows increases the frame rate quite a bit, with a small loss of visual quality. Based on my own trials with a FX 5200 and a Radeon 8500, I think you should be able to play semi-smoothly at 800x600 with dynamic shadows on and smoothly at 1024x768 with dynamic shadows off.
Note that the kitchen area of your apartment at the start of the game is one of the worst spots in terms of frame rate, so it's a good place to test various settings.
