The sophisticated scripts used in most companion mods require functions that are provided by one the expansions. I cannot name a companion mod that doesn't have dependency on either Tribunal or Bloodmoon.
Princess Stomper has assembled a pretty good list of mods that depend upon (
http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/01/31/morrowind-only-mods/) Morrowind only. I have not used very many mods on her list (beyond the obvious ones) so I cannot comment on their content. I can say that there will be an update of several of the LGNPC mods in the weeks ahead, so you might wish to wait with those.
Also, I think you would be generally safe with graphics replacers if that sort of thing is important to you.

about the Khajiit, I talked once to her, and she just says something like, what i do is my own business.
now, planetelderscrolls has very cool mods, too bad that it redirects me to fileplanet, witch I must register and pay to download.

You need to register at Fileplanet, but you don't need to pay unless you want to upgrade to a high-speed download service.

the problem is the computer im on, on another fileplanet works.
And that khajiit disposition is at 89. But that doesnt matter.
I FOUND A SHIPWRECK ON TOP OF AN ISLAND! The location itself is called weird shipwreck or something. Its found north of sadrith mora, on one of the tiny islands there are.
And why on earth are there tribes of 3 members that always atack me?(its on the ashlands that they are mostly)
Oh, and I found a mod that everyone must have, it alows you to sell your soul to Lucifer, and then you will every now and then get atacked by beasts trying to reap it from you. Its fun to kill the scamps that have been atacking me, since I asked for eternal life..... Its rather funny to be scared of being atacked by other dark creatures.
And found another that allows me to join a faction of prostitutes(lol) and sell my body for money. Its rather funny seeing Caius on the floor gasping for air(the only time I gayed for a bit), and and unusual experience if I choose to "make love" with Crassius Curio............... You would have to read the results of that. :) But thanks to that mod I now realize that khajiits must have weird mating processes, because if i "make love" to one, it says its an unusual experience. And dont get me started on orcs....... Its a funny mod
And now some questions:
1.- Will Caius ever come back?
2.- People tell me that the duke is staying at Morrowind this year. If 365 days pass, will he move location?
3.- How come I can only free slaves? Cant i command the ones I buy?
4.- I was atacked by a vampire IN SEYDA NEEN IN DAYLIGHT! And that was BEFORE I installed the "sell my soul to lucifer" mod. Has this ever happened to you?
And now a discovery I made!
If you use the cheat "filljournal" on the game console you get all info of all quests. And also its benefits. with the pcjoinfaction, I joined Telvanni, Redoran and Hlaalu. with pcraiserank I became their leader. with fill journal, I got the Three Strongholds! Yes! All three of them!
But there are side efects. There are now responses to npc's that I dont understand. Like, I talked to one about "Almexia" or something like that, and he said "Leave me" and the red Goodbye sign apeared. I seached the journal topics and found out that it relates to a godess or something like that. any idea what thats all about?
