Sometimes Ringo blows my fucking mind. Strawberry Fields practically invented modern grooves, and the guy's fills are beyond tasteful.

Ya know what I've learned about Ringo? He's really underrated, but if you were to take away every single other track but the drums from any given Beatles song, you could still tell exactly which song it is. He plays the song - not the drums. That's the magic of Ringo that I missed for so many years while I drooled over Alex Van Halen.
Who does the Jojo Mayer guy play for? Alot of his stick work is taken from Drum and Bugle Core line stuff, but he's actually pretty cool. I don't recognize him.

that danny carey 'solo' at the end of parabola is actually really good, i think "muscular" is the best word. it's also woven into the song which is where solos should be

Sorry ercles, Carey sounds like he is doing a mic check. There is no development and certainly no fireworks. Cymbal rolls - yawwwwwn.
And while Gad can be good it is Chick who is holding the groove in that clip, Gad is tripping all over himself. Bad example.
There are too many fine drummers to pick just one. My favourite is Bill Bruford for his ability to get a song while playing around it. Off beat and rock solid at the same time.
