does dromed's lighting preview work usefully for anyone else?
like, for me it updates the view nicely enough when i create a new light, but when i move the light (as i inevitably have to, to tweak its position) or adjust its brightness etc, the lighting preview doesnt update.
not a practical problem for me as when lighting i just throw up a small 'me only' area and then relighting only takes a moment. but ive heard others speak positively about the lighting preview and i dont understand how it works for them.
so, does the lighting preview work for you? if so, how?

Not sure what the 'lighting preview' is, but I can certainly check mine to see how it behaves if you like. Just need some more info. (Forgive me, I'm about 20 years out of practice.)

I've never seen any real time preview, I've always had to relight the level. I'm not the most savvy editor, but I comment because I'm not sure this is any out of box setting at least. Hopefully you can retrace the conversation about it (maybe discord?) and find more about it.
Maybe they meant the fact you have full light rendering in the preview pane. Which is true, as it uses your graphics card, but you still have to relight. On my preview it's not great because my torch has to "come up" to the level of light it will eventually produce so I have to look ingame.

okay, for those who dont know what i am talking about: if you create a brush light or an object light, the 3d view is supposed to (and sometimes does) show that light's effect immediately, without a lighting rebuild—albeit in the simplified “quick lighting” mode.
the idea is that you could do a coarse lighting pass on a whole level without needing to wrangle areas and constantly hit relight. (not that those are a big burden—these days the relative cost advantage of quick lighting vs raycast is much less significant than 10, 20 years ago).
if you didnt know about this or dont make use of this, my question isnt directed at you! i want to hear from those who do use it, and who have a handle on its quirks and when it does/doesnt function as expected. and i would like to hear how it fits into their workflow.

It works for me sometimes, but only the first time after starting dromed and loading a mission. I always thought it was a bug and I didn't really pay attention to it.

Ahh, ok. Yeah, that's been buggy from the start, and I have never relied on it. Seems like it always does something unexpected or unhelpful, so I would just have to relight and check in-game.

In my experience, it'll do a pretty reasonable preview of the point where the light was created, but never update after that unless lighting is rebuilt. Just one of those things.

That has been my observation as well: the first time you place a lit object of some kind, you get a decent approximation of what it will look like.. but after that, it takes a re-light.
