Dromed worked fine until now, but when I tried starting it today it gave me this message and it doesn't start anymore at all!:(
Dromed error - Failed to set video mode! Assertion Failed WDISP.CPP Line 395
Inline Image:
https://i.postimg.cc/dVpMfcvP/Dromed-error-Assertion-Failed.jpgDoes anyone have any idea how to fix this?:(
Edit: Also T2 is not working anymore! It looks like this happened after I tried to install Thief Gold and the DirectX Version of the original CDs - which failed both.
It was a few days ago and I didn't use Dromed or T2 since then, so I just realized this today! I'm not sure what caused the problem.
Inline Image:
https://i.postimg.cc/3xYWwqcv/T2-error.jpgAlso my mouse cursor disappears after I start trying Dromed or T2.:tsktsk:
I think it has something to do with my failed attempt to install DirectX from old Thief Gold CD! Is there any way to undo this?
What do you guys suggest?
Edit2: This is very odd and leaves me with even more questions. I uninstalled T2 and reinstalled it with Steam. (I also own the CDs) But anyway, first it worked. T2 started.
Then I installed the T2Fix and now it doesn't start anymore. It doesn't even give me the error message anymore. It just goes black for a second and then jumps back to windows screen. wtf is going on?
Maybe it's worth mentioning I used the Dark Engine Viewer before this nuke occured. I have been doing a couple of attempts: I uninstall Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable and DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) and reinstalled them, after reinstalling T2 a couple of times. After that I installed T2Fix 1-27e. Now the same error message appears...
What on earth can cause Thief2 not to work even after uninstalling it? Is there a hidden folder I have to delete or something like that? I reached the point of complete frustration and I don't know what to do anymore. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!!!!
If I ever get Thief 2 to work again, I will never ever use the Dark Mod Viewer again. I think this nuked my Thief. Or the Direct X of Thief1?!?! The confusion is endless.

What in Thief2.log after crash ?
Try to set in cam.cfg resolution more then 640x480, 1024x768 for example
game_screen_size 1024 768

The resolution in cam.cfg is as my screen: 2560 x 1440, also tried the one you suggested. Both didn't work.
Using dual screens. Before when Thief 2 was still working it was no problem. It used one screen when started.

Did you try reinstalling your video drivers?

That's strange.. Is any other 3D-software works ?

Yes, I tested if other games still work and they do.
I also updated the drivers of my video card.
Reinstalled T2+T2fix = same error :(
voodoo47 on 12/1/2023 at 00:20
ok, lets make sure - clean steam install (moved or copied out from program files to a nice location, like C:\Games\T2), patched with the latest T2Fix, and Dromed won't even start? computer rebooted?

I don't have the file WDISP.CPP on my PC, so it must be something specific to your PC. Have you tried any other games? Could it be a hardware issue? One thing you could try is to turn off the PC and remove and re-insert the video card to make sure the contacts are good. I remember in the past it was sometimes necessary to completely remove all of the nVidia files by using their NFR utility. That was their Nasty File Remover, and it completely removed every trace of nVidia whereas the driver installation does not... not sure about driver installations released in today's world.

Looks like somebody might have had a similiar issue to yours: (

He reinstalled Windows and that fixed the problem... :thumb:

Won't harm trying to install the latest one again, before you try the ultimate solution...

Just for the records - that file is part of the Dark Engine itself.

I was about to say, a .cpp file reference like that is almost always internal to another program (that's been written in C++ (hence the 'cpp' designation), but PinkDot beat me to it.
