I have a Geforce 7900 gs and I get that bug with the texture memory. What drivers should I use?

Glad you figured it out. You didn't say which game you were playing, what your computer specifications are, or what known fixes you'd tried. ;)

In fact, you only just answered which game you were talking about, thief of course. But you didn't even divulge on which one. Ah well, it's either one or two, that's for sure.

I can't seem to get either Thief 1 or Thief 2 to work using any of the patches or fixes.
Both games freeze with a "program not responding" message in task manager, and a blank screen ingame. I can get thief 1 to run in 8 bit (software mode), but it's not really playable with 8 bit rendering.
Splash scenes, cut-scenes all work and the menu loads, but game freezes when it launches.
I'm running the game on a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (2.0 ghz)
2 gig DDR
Geforce FX 5500 (256 m) driver version 6.14.0011.7519 (5/16/2008)
SB Audigy
DX 9.0c
I tried it with earlier nVidia drivers, but both the games still lock, so I'm thinking it's either a memory issue, or something to do with the AMD chipset.
Anyone get these two games to work on AMD using nvidia drivers?

That means the problem has something to do with graphics. Could be a problem with the graphics card or its drivers, but could be some problem with the mainboard's chipset as well - after all, the graphics hardware is attached to said chipset.
Do you have any other game which does run with your machine? Did you try to use DirectX9's diagnostic program (dxdiag, I believe, but it's not always present in Windows' menus, although it usually is present on the hard disk) and ran the graphics tests there? These should show you a 3D object with DirectX support, which would confirm that your hardware and software setup is capable of displaying "hardware-accelerated 3D graphics".

What do you mean by "AMD chipset"? A mainboard's chipset is not the same as the processor. You have an AMD processor, but you could have a VIA chipset on your mainboard, for example. Did you mix these things up, or do you really have an AMD chipset for your AMD processor?
Please, try to find out what chipset your mainboard uses, and tell us which one it is. Maybe that would help as well. If you don't know it, try to find out which mainboard you have. It should be possible to find out which chipset it uses, then.
My own hardware is very dated and possibly not comparable to yours, so it's unlikely I'll be able to help you even with this information - but perhaps someone else can do that.
