Ok, so I found this sword called "Sword of white woe"
it has the spell effect "Drain health 1-10 points for 30 seconds" on strike.
Now, whenever I strike somebody with it, they develop this red clowd around them for around 30 seconds, but nothing really happens. Looking at their health bar, it dosent change at all..... so what exactly does this spell do?? I don't see any health being drained at all.
It does good damage but I really don't see why this sword is valued at 17k

The Sword of White Woe is an enchanted Ebony Broadsword. These broadswords are priced at 10k. The extra 7k comes from the enchantment (note: only pre-enchanted weapons have a rise in price. Enchanting a weapon yourself won't raise it's valued price).
If I remember correctly, Drain Health damages your opponent while healing you. I'm not sure if this works with a weapon, however, as often times spells 'malfunction' when put into a weapon. Healing spells on a weapon will heal your opponent instead of you, for example.

So........ your suggesting its draining my opponents health and giving it back at exactly the same time???
I feel royally chated :tsktsk:
a vampiric sword would have been so good.....

No no, absorb health is healing yourself while damaging the enemy. Drain health drains the target's health a specific amount for the length of the spell. Say a weapon drains 20 points of health for 30 seconds. When it goes into effect, it drains JUST 20 points of health for 30 seconds, and then the drained health returns to the victim if they are still alive. Drain health is somewhat of a tactical spell for attacks compared to the instant damage spells.
In short, drain health spells lower the enemy's total amount of health for the duration of the spell.

Thank you for that explanation, cleared things up alot :D
So, I take it drain health just reduces the TOTAL maximum amout of health without actually removing any, ie 37/82 health would go down to 37/72 if drained 10 points. I suppose the only good this does is prevents your opponent from healing back to full health when they run low.
Still...... not a very usefull spell for such a good sword. Blind or paralise for 30 seconds or something would have been much nicer :p

As I understand it, yes. Same goes for all types of drain.
