Wrong theory. Throw it on the ground - it's a full sized sword, glowing from the nano activity on the surface of the blade. Didn't you pay attention to the descriptions provided in the game of how the sword works? You've been deceived by a mistaken animation.
Personally I hold the fact that
you see it spring right out of the goddamn hilt before your very eyes like a lightsaber to be more authoritative than a description that says it doesn't do that, and I don't recall such a description anyway - the ones I do remember were entirely compatible with the concept of the blade being constructed at activation time by nanomachines (and, apparently, J.C. not bothering to deactivate it when you ditch the sword).
I can see why they would make it take 4 slots for balance reasons but it's still nonsensical given the weapon's behaviour.

So... FullCapacity just decided to ignore the necromancy warning.
Lovely.

Haha, oops. And so did I, though I didn't notice the date was 2002 rather than 2006.

Anyone remember the Laser Rapier Mk1. in Free Radical? It had a very thin conventional blade which the energy was projected from. DTS might be similar, and the thin blade is too small to see normally.

If memory serves there was a groove bored out where the sharp area would be, which was filled by a plasma filiment or something .

That sounds like the lasier rapier from SS2 (possibly SS1 as well, but I haven't played it so I can't confirm it).
To answer the question, I used it the first time through, and now plan on not using it at all throughout my second attempt. I want a bit more challenge, and it really seemed to unbalance things.
'Course, that doesn't mean that I don't like it. Quite the opposite, it's one of my favorite weapons.

i actually used to use it to light my way in really dark sections and save myself the battery life.
after a while i quit using it because the regular sword is actually MORE powerful.
liquidfear on 11/9/2006 at 19:28
More powerful? Please explain. I thought the DTS was the most powerful weapon in game. You can't get better then one hit kills.
Qaladar on 11/9/2006 at 20:32
Yes you can... multiple kills in one hit. LAW ftw!

Well, try breaking lockers with the Dragon's Tooth. The normal swords do it fine, but not the DT.
