Ok, well I've added it to my wishlist, so I'll get the usual emails from isthereanydeal.com whenever it goes on sale anywhere.

DOH, ignore me, I's been stoopid and let the excitement cloud my vision. It's out for pre-purchase today while the release date remains unchanged.
Booooooo.

I grabbed it yesterday and have played it for about 8 hours or so. TB's Port Report is a fair assessment of the technical side from my experience.

So a Steam buddy of mine told me how to bring my save over from the PS3, and I spent a blissful weekend losing myself in this wonderful game again.
The improved framerate, more than anything else, has the biggest affect on the game. Everything is silky smooth.
And even now, after god knows how many hours I put in to the game on the PS3, I'm still learning new stuff. It's absolutely insane just how much stuff there is in this game, and how much stuff it's easy to miss if you're not playing with the game's many systems.
With my veteran character, nearing top level, I'm still finding new ways to play, new builds to try.
I'm chasing a wonderful dream of Dragon Forging every last inventory item, and I'm loving it.
Even more than Demon's Souls, Dragon's Dogma was my favourite game on PS3, and it's quickly becoming my favourite game on PC.
If any of you guys are playing this and want a decent high level pawn to accompany you on your adventures in Gransys, add me to your Steam Friends list.
And if you want to know how to convert your save from console, I'll reproduce the method here if there's demand for it. It's relatively simple, but there's no step-by-step guide anywhere on the internet.

Cool Ghosts did a video on Dragon's Dogma that together with Malf's enthusiasm have put this game on my Steam wishlist:

I bought this game two times already, and I'll probably buy it again. A great gem of a game. I'm glad it gets this much love now. I only remember it being criticised for not being Skyrim back when it was released on consoles.. It'd be neat if Capcom released an editor so that new locales and quests might be created. Probably won't happen, though :( ....

Way too much Dragons Dogma love in here, need more Dragons Dogma HATE to balance it out.
I'll just quote what I (and Phatose) said in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139675) the old thread:
Quote:
Final verdict: a good game bogged down by too much boring inventory-management, a confusing story, and "fucking Lord of the Rings all-about-walking" as Phatose put it.
Tho, as Malf pointed out, apparently the portal stones are cheaper in Dark Arisen, leading to a lot less running back and forth to the main city every time your inventory gets full, so that probably makes it less painful to play.

So, I put 28 hours into DD: DA over the weekend.
My main gripe is the menu system using KB/M. Why is there no Map/Quest/Status button? Why are the Inventory and Equipment screens seperate? Why Backspace of all keys to save options? Why can I use Escape to quit out of dialogue subtrees, but have to use Enter to terminate dialogue completely? And so on. But the game itself is mostly good and it does run well.

You get an Eternal Ferrystone (due to the original DLC being included) and apparently you also get a lot more Portstones (manually placed beacons for the Ferrystone) than you did in the original DD.

Discovered a really cool thing yesterday.
While you can use the forger at the Black Cat to reproduce all crafting materials (needed to upgrade weapons and armours), there are some materials which are hard to get a hold of in the first place.
The material in this particular instance is the Bloodred Crystal.
This crystal is only dropped by one type of monster on Bitterblack Isle, the Strigoi. The Strigoi's a red, flying, gargoyle-type creature, that attacks by grabbing pawns or players.
Unlike harpies, the Strigoi won't attempt to take off while holding a character.
Rather, it will suck the character's blood, draining their health. Once it has sucked enough blood, its tail will develop a red, glowing bulge, and if you kill the Strigoi at this point, it will drop the Bloodred Crystal.
You have to let yourself be attacked by the Strigoi in order to get its most rare drop.
Awesome.
That and the many other examples like it are why I absolutely love this game. I've maxed out my character level now, but am still finding things to do, items to improve and surprising game-play elements like the Bloodred Crystal.
