So is it going to be large, boring ass maps full of busywork like their last 3 games, or are they going back to the Bioware formula of having hubs with mission areas that branch of off it and don't waste my damn time.

They've tamped down the open-world crap and made it mission-based, according to the creative director:
Which, thank god. DA:I had some of the most hollow, boring, and padded open-world game loops I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing, sellotaped to a middling-to-decent RPG narrative.

There's a lot to like about Inquisition, but yeah, the open world stuff was awful. It was like bringing the worst of MMOs into a single player game.

How bloody embarrassing it must be to take an originally a multiple party member, tactical RPG franchise, turn it into a PlayStation template, hack & slash action game and then release in a world where Baldur's Gate 3 was a huge success. I.e. a game that not only has tactical, multi-party member RPG combat, but it's turn-based as a opposed to "Real-time with pause".
EA seemingly worked over time to curate an army of shills. Basically anyone who posted even the slightest bit of criticism in their impressions preview videos didn't get an early review code.

If even access media shill like MrMattyPlays and SkillUp don't like it then it's not a good sign!

I finished watching the Skill Up review. The animated characters look like Thunderbirds Gerry Anderson puppets! Seems that they learnt nothing from ME Andromeda's "my face is tired" shit tier character animation.

But I'm not trying to paint you as anything, Unit. You're managing just fine on your own .
It must be sad that reality isn't warping the way you'd prefer it to, but that's your lot. We're not interested in what you're selling, unfortunately.

That stinginess also make me second-guess their Essentials these days, because who's giving it out is important too. Bertie's an all right chap, though, and his reviews are usually pretty on balance. Veilguard's reviews look solid enough from other places that in aggregate it's looking like a good get in the ME2 vein of swords 'n' conversation that the series has been skewing towards since DA2. I'm also hearing that it runs well on modern hardware, which is a refreshing change of pace. Who knew Frostbite would one day stop being a liability for studios outside of DICE?
