DA is basically KOTOR anyway so it's redundant

I enjoyed Risen much more. it's smaller in scope but much richer in its fiction and environment. While you have tons of information (meaning codex-entries) in DragonAge it's just like reading a book about something that happened somehwhere else. there are always safezones, you can't attack anybody you like....Risen gives a much better sense of place, time, mystery and character. In DA:O I always know when I change maps or when the random crossed swords appear: it's fighting time. inbetween it's talking time. In Risen each and every corner was a possible fight, quest, sight to behold or even all of it. The sense of dread and danger was more real than in any random darkspawn cave. Not to speak of the cool, trap-filled dungeon. RISEN's magic is also very crude and raw. And you were alone which greatly contributed to the "angst" feeling.
Still, greatly impressed with DA:Os characters and I think I will squeeze another playthrough as two-handed Warrior in before MassEffect 2 comes out.

I'm probably going to give in and get this soon and not wait for another sale.
I know it's fantastic (because, apart from Stitch gushing about a game for a change ;), it has Aeryn Claudia Black in it), but my backlog said to me, 'slow the fuck down, do you SEE how much shit you gotta finish already?' and I was like, 'yeah, fuck my whorish collecting habit' and went and bought a fresh fuckton of shit on the Steam sale anyway.
What probably helps is that, while this is on sale for like $50 on Steam, EA tends to mark its PC titles here down to about, oh, $18. Which, needless to say, is very tempting.

The latest update (at least on 360) seriously breaks the game, do not update!
Basically, it re-locks the unlocked specialization classes.

You mean the same decade that saw the releases of Deus Ex, Vampire TM: Bloodlines, Fallout 3 and Knights of the Old Republic?
I do feel like I should retroactively qualify my statement. Dragon Age is by far the best RPG of its kind, but I'd personally put it in a separate category from RPG shooters like Deus Ex or open world RPGs like those created by Bethesda or Piranha Bytes. It isn't better or worse, just different. I did enjoy it more, but that's difficult to rank--nothing in Dragon Age can compare with enjoying an island sunset in Risen, for example. Dragon Age ultimately connected with me because I liked the story, character arcs, and tactical RPG gameplay.
And yeah, calling Deus Ex a "RPG shooter" is kind of reductive but I couldn't think of a better summary.

I'm just praying that some sort of SUPER DUPER GOTY edition will come out that means I don't have to buy The Stone Prisoner as DLC, because it just doesn't look like I can fit this in my schedule before April.

If you get the game new you don't have to buy The Stone Prisoner separately, there's an activation code in the box that you can add to your account and then you can download that DLC pack for free.
But I would indeed expect that a GOTY edition will come out eventually to also include the Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar DLC packs. However, seeings as they have an expansion pack on the way for March I wouldn't be surprised if the GOTY actually came after that to include it as well. Or if there still other expansions on the way.
