Fuck off, $70NZD retail for the Awakenings expansion. I'm gonna wait for that one to fall in price (or will shop around for deals).

I gave up as well yesterday (but did not cheat through), at last I got a good hold of how my tactic slots work best and now I don't have to micromanage everything (at least not healing / selfbuffing / defending mage ). I just started another playthrough and now I breezed through my first ogre in ostagar. I also got me Shale straight away. I sure will come back to the end-slog only to see how my party gets all weepy at my funeral :) , I hope Leilana says something ridiculously naive while Shale squishes some birds. I will replay this game numerous times only to see the different reactions to certain decisions by different party members. I play with Morrigan/Wynne(Alistair)/Leilana now and some comments were so hillarious, I really do hope they managed to make MassEffects Companions at least 40% that good as DragonAge's, then it's going to be a top game compared to the first. For DragonAge sequel and its expansions I hope they throw out their design departement and the level designer or it's going to be 1h RPG and then 11 hours of the same corner with the same 3-10 enemies.
really good game. RPG of the year ? no

AARGH!
I'm stuck with no recent save in that bloody elven forest and that damn giant tree gave me some stupid stick to open the forest. Only the stick doesn't appear in my inventory and I can't open the central area. I really don't want to re-do 3 days of playing. Curse you quick save! :(

Hm... haven't heard about this bug before. It may be a tad tedious, but I think you could try and solve it with the toolset. Check this (
http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Tutorial:_idiots_guide_to_adding_custom_items_to_singleplayer#Creating_a_script_to_summon_your_item) tutorial on creating a custom item, since it also includes notes on how to create a script to summon said item. Only instead of using the reference ID for that supposed new item, look up the ID for that item (I think it's (
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Oak_Branch) this one), and put that in your script, then run it in game (you'll have to enable the console for that).

really good game.
I agree it's a good game, I think the quantity and intricacy of the writing more than makes up for the shoddy mechanics and other occasional shortcomings. Totally worth it, in my opinion. I've been itching to do a thorough analysis of the game, but I just don't have the time now.

Do we have anything better for 2009? I haven't played Risen, is that it?

Can't really comment on how Dragon Age stacks up to Risen as I played Dragon Age ages ago and then moved on with my life like every reasonable person I know.

Well, I haven't finished it yet, but it sure feels polished. I have to say that Gothic 2/Night of the Raven is mine, but a lot of that has to do with nostalgia. I still have this game and Mass Effect purchased and waiting for me on Steam, so once I finish those I think I will be able to comment properly, as I have played most everything halfway western in the genre.

RPG of the decade
You mean the same decade that saw the releases of Deus Ex, Vampire TM: Bloodlines, Fallout 3 and Knights of the Old Republic?
cool story bro

Agreed, that's (in part) why it gets top honors!
