Not every-fucking-one bought it on PC...
Zygoptera on 5/1/2010 at 22:57
EvaUnit did though, and I'm fairly sure both Stitch and nicked did too. If you're going to get upset about higher costs for console games then you'll be upset just about every time a game is released so a course of chilling out is advisable.
[My bad on the journalism snipe though, it's taken direct from EA's press release of course so it's them who are 'wrong']

Hold on - increased level cap? My Dragon Age manual states that there is no level cap, just a formula for working out how much more XP you need each time...
Correct, but there are not repeatable encounters in dragon age, so there's an effective limit because XP is finite.
nicked on 6/1/2010 at 07:23
Dunno whether they've fixed it yet, but there's a pretty funny bug where you can get very high level very early. In the first quest after your origin story, you have to get some vials of darkspawn blood and somne documents. If you get the blood but don't pick up the documents, then go back to see Duncan, you can claim the massive XP dump for the doing the quest, on loop - each time you talk to him, he thanks you for getting the blood, gives you some XP, and then tells you to go back and get the documents. You can get to level 25 before Ostagar, and the scaling monsters mean you can still play the game in high level mode.

Plenty chilled out here on my end. You linked to GameStop not EA, btw. Besides, neither one are journalists last I checked.
I couldn't care less about PC vs. console prices. Just saying, it probably sold a helluva lot more on X360...
Phatose on 7/1/2010 at 03:32
It would be interesting to see how the 360/pc comparison matches up in this case. Console number show it as being a pretty good seller, but hardly earthshaking as console games go, and it was at the top of Steam's revenue and sales list quite a bit.

Ah, so it was just panty wad time and you felt like making a completely random grizzle, fair enough.
EA links to Gamestop direct from their Dragon Age site. Please, feel free to check. As for the journalist thing, no shit, it's called a correction as I don't mind correcting myself (or being corrected) on the
very rare occasions I'm wrong on something.
And I'd put money on DA selling better on PC than on
either console.
[Edit] In any case, Gamestop have changed their pricing to $40 now for the PC version as well. Hope any USians interested got in at the lower price.

so, i've done the following as a female mage until now:
- origin
- ostagar
- lothering
- circle of magi
- redcliffe castle
- stone prisoner
- urn of sacred ashes
- started orzammar
It still drags alot, the "urn" story was pretty bad as in: not hommage but 1:1 copy of the grail's story, ripped off by numerous other boring RPGs and DragonAge was no better, even theWitcher succumbed to it but had its own twist (and is adapted from the novels) while DA has no excuse than lazyness or - what I think: conservative, unoriginal, "safe" writing so you have your stories revolve around things from school or children books and then they just "twist" it with foul language, sex and cheesy underwear (and bloodsplatters of course). I was yawning through the whole thing trying not to fall asleep at its cliches and mannequin puppet delivery. BUT
Now I got to Orzammar and this is what I like: many backgrounds, sidequests, many dialogues sprinkled with occasional but CHALLENGING fights, twist in every quest. Orzammar is a winner sofar. Best campaign yet.
But here my first question:
- did someone side with the cultists in the "urn" quest ? do you get "blood mage" specialization for it ?
- did someone sound the cultists horn and challenge the high dragon ? I tried but holy shit, the thing is a one-hit-kill wonder. when it landed on the ground half my party was dead INSTANTLY. I can't imagine how you could fight it. Any tips ?
And from another part of the party plot:
- did anyone kill flemeth for morrigan ? (i just pretended and got the book) ... does she give any special loot and if, how did you beat hear. When I tried it she stunned just everybody in the party and then burned everybody to death. I reloaded 4 times and she always killed me instantly (like the big dragon above but she needed 4 rounds instead of 1)
And yeah, any new DLC or sequels won't get my money. Not that I find DA that bad - although it got quite some bugs and looks oh-so-ugly - but the Stone Prisoner, DLC for preorder or SpecialEd I think, had the insane playing time of 1h (!!!!). Well at least you get the very best character in the game for your party but only if you payed EXTRA (or preordered). I HATE THAT. don't cut content from the game. I will vote against it with my money. And the trailer for the new expansion suggest a cliffhanger for the end of DA:O (which I have not seen yet and doubt if the combat returns to redcliffe style boredome) that gets "explained" in the new part. They really wanna make a SP-MMO with quantity over quality and "subscription"-like pricing.
This franchise just ended.

first question:
Siding with the cultists gives you the Reaver specialisation for the warrior. AFAIK the only chance to unlock blood magic is if you go into the Fade yourself in the quest with Connor, and bargain with the demon.
I don't know about the second question.
As for both Flemeth's dragon form and "Andraste", some tips: get a lot of fire-resistant armor etc. After you do the Urn, you should have some drake scales. The smith in Denerim can make some rather good armor from them. Having a mage with Group Heal is very, very advisable, as is having a lot of health poultices. Herbalism comes in handy here, just find merchants who sell an unlimited supply of components.

Here's what I do:
You'll want fireproof armor like Hellsing said for your tank, failing that, get some of the heaviest plate you can find. Take as many mages as you've got along. If you've only got 2, then bring a warrior with a crossbow or a thief with a bow. The more mages that have healing spells and cone of cold, the better. Use the warrior to keep aggro. Have your ranged party members stay far back using staves or bows. Use your mages to quickly cone of cold the dragon and run back out of range and keep your warrior healed up. If all of their healing spells are cooling off, have your warrior down some powerful healing salves. Keep at it and it should die.
The main thing is to keep the aggro on the fighter and everyone else out of the dragon's AoE spells. And if your tank can't survive the dragon's grab attacks, come back later.
