Playing it now as human rogue.
I'm wondering why they haven't yet included the conversation line "you must be boiling hot standing right next to that fire all day".
That reminded me of one of the devs weird laziness of Alistair's idling animations at the arl's Denerim castle: he is warming up his hands infront of a bookcase. Which seemed to me like they just copied the animations from the campfire. There are surprisingly many such small things in this game.
Something that bothers me for some odd reason is how the same maps are copied over and over at Denerim.
I mean, 6 years, was it? With an engine already in place?
There isn't *that* much content in it, IMO.
My best/worst compassionate shame so far came from Leliana's totally hilariously out-of-place song by the campfire. :D

Have you heard her speech about shoes?
MorbusG on 22/11/2009 at 00:36
Sure have, and also the tale of a noble woman with a peculiar hat.
You know, I keep carrying her these shoes and holy symbols and what not, but she doesn't seem to swing that way.

Yea I don't think DA supports same gender romances. I know because I tried it on with Morrigan and my female Dalish Elf.

[Repost of Legolas/ Gimli Dragon Age pr0n]
There are two bisexual characters, one male, one female. The male one ought to be obvious from ^^, and the female one cannot decide either which team she bats for or whether she's French or not.

I was all set to insult the lot of you as joyless idiots, but then I went and finished the Mage's Tower quest and while I am enjoying the hell out of this game I have to agree that there are some colossal misses mixed in with the hits.
About the Mages' Tower:
Wow, what an ugly set of maps, all unnatural colors and horrible non-source lighting. The entire section in The Fade was kind of cool and all as a break, but it really just felt like a Neverwinter Nights module that tried to GO OUTSIDE THE BOX. And when I say it felt like a Neverwinter Nights module, I mean it felt like a Neverwinter Nights module, full of low res textures and maps that felt like miniature lego sets as opposed to actual areas. If anything, this is a step back from games like KotOR.
And while I've generally thought you guys wouldn't know decent video game writing if it handed you a copy of The Great Gatsby, holy fucking shit was listening to some of the dialogue in this section akin to nails on a chalkboard. That dude in the Fade who was all whiny and weary annoyed me to no end, and then the final boss guy--Uldred?--had a speech so bad that I laughed through it for all the wrong reasons. "Uldred? There is no Uldred anymore...I have becomes something more than Uldred." OH FUCK OFF. If that line was in a book I'd fucking chuck it across the room and flood the internet with opinionated ranting regard its shittiness.
Luckily this is a videogame and I had a blast kicking his ass

At first I thought you were talking about Thief Gold and was about to call you out on posting in the wrong forum.
... :(

I wouldn't expect you guys to know good gameplay if I hit you on the head with a copy of Crysis, but considering DA:O awful game mechanics (spell cooldown, aggro, auto-regen, whatever), I'd say the gameplay is at least as awful as the writing.

Since the beginning of this thread I went through one facepalm after the other, each one being more intense than the last. I think I finally reached the mother of them all though.
