It was like watching Xena The Warrior Princess, but without any of the humor.
A damning statement indeed!
Incidentlly, they just released a patch that makes the difficulty easier. What's weird is that while (from what I've read) it makes sense to make the NORMAL difficulty less hard, they're also making the EASY difficulty easier, which is supposed to already be really easy. Hmmm.
Oh, and apparently the 360 version was kind of butchered. Which is strange, given that Bioware took good advantage of the platform for Mass Effect.

It was never intended for 360, that got added once EA bought them and once the engine had been designed, hence it ain't all that 360 friendly.

I've been playing it for 19 h (8% of a game completed) right now, it has some interesting tidbits but they're easily lost in a flood of typical RPG elements/issues.
Dialogues are really extensive but our silent character makes it a bit meh. Main quests are nice and devs tried to give us some variety here (not just typical "fedex" quests, this is reserved for secondary quests, mostly), but it's the MMO-like grindfest that makes these tiresome. E.g., return to the mage tower and the main quest idea behind it was excellent, but it's spoiled by killing tons of the same foes on every floor (also looking the same). Floor 1, check, Floor 2, check, Floor 3, etc.
On a normal difficulty combat is quite challenging and you spend a lot of time in paused mode. The ally AI is dumb and to make things right you have to use Hold Ground mode, giving orders one by one, otherwise it turns into complete chaos. This takes a lot of time and becomes tedious after some time.
I don't know, maybe I'm getting old but I guess I prefer shorter but more meaningful games (Risen is ideal choice for me, as for now). I don't like this idea of extending the length of the game by any means possible.

The fact that DA:O uses dark green color for some grass textures makes it obvious they just didn't spend enough time (or imagination?) on making this game original enough.
Other than that I have no complaints, it's been a good load of fun so far.

As Imoen put it: (
http://silellak.com/lets_play/BiowarePhilosophyResized.JPG) Many legends have familiar forms and themes. We enjoy them so because we know them.

Ok, one of my complains is invalid, the PC patch apparently made the game combat a bit easier. I've enjoyed past few hours with the game, fighting isn't so tedious now.
Also, I've done 2 quests today. Yes, two, and I've been playing for the whole day. I'm really impressed by the scale of environments. Though the graphics is a bit outdated and blurry, the quests and locations (I don't mean towns and villages) make up for it. Quest for Andraste's ashes to cure arl totally blew me away. Everytime I thought the will quest end, the game proved me wrong. If you think that you saw an adventure on truly epic scale in RPGs, the game shows you know nothing about that :cheeky:

Wonder if there will be any good mods for this?
I'm kind of afraid you'll get a ton of generic-fantasy mods. This is what happened to a large extent with NWN and NWN2 - some of them were quite GOOD generic fantasy, mind you, but there were only a handful of mods that really left the D&D comfort zone.
Also, wtf with 3D Imoen. Is this a joke (i.e. there is a character in DA:O that resembles her) or what?

Don't worry, nude mods shouldn't take too long.
