This is more of a discussion for anyone thats considering doing the same.
So, after using Vista on all 3 computers (main, media, laptop) for the last 3 months and I hav e made the choice to go back to Xp. Here are my impression so far.
Pros
* I forgot how fast Xp was compared to Vista - windows explorer is almost instantaneous again.
* Internet browsing is actually faster, Firefox looks better cosmetically.
* I will be testing to see if Fog will work on my GTX280 under XpSp3
* Copies and transfers are now immediate, no delays as with vista.
* Programs startup faster.
Cons:
* I miss the bling of the vista interface
* Got used to the user folder structure on vista - eg, ' music ', not ' my music ' etc.
* Xp can be a pain with installing, especially on multi partitioned hard drives, Vista is far better at this.
* Sharing & security is better implemented on vista
* Offline files is better implemented on vista
* Im getting the odd memory exception with some 3rd party programs, didnt in vista with same apps.

Interesting; I'm dual booting but apart from having to use XP for my scanner I don't touch it at all now. Vista is so much nicer.
I personally find Vista's My Computer to be equivalent to XP's Windows Explorer, but faster - I'm surprised that you found it to be the other way around.

I had an older laptop with Vista at work, and I hated it. But now I have it installed at home on a more powerful PC, and I love it. So, as long as you've got the power, to me Vista is the way to go. The interface is just so much slicker, and I've had no performance issues at all (on the new rig).
Vista install was amazing too, no issues at all, all my hardware was detected and installed without a hitch.

Are you talking about random BSODs or something different?

Nope, some 3rd party apps through up a memory exception error, its an old bug with Xp.

I've been using Vista on my desktop since roughly September 2007, and I've been very happy with it. Perfectly stable, and comfy and easy to navigate once I got rid of UAC. My laptop has both XP and Vista installed, though I only use the former. This is mostly because the laptop's a slightly lower spec than the desktop, and because I use it mainly for University work (coding most of the time) and their network's XP. I have no problem with going back to XP, but I overall really like Vista, and if 7 really is this well done Vista++ everyone's saying it is, I'm probably going to love it.

Vista's networking is much MUCH better than XP's, especially if you regularly connect to wireless networks. With Vista you set it once and never worry about it again, while XP regularly forgets everything.

I've never had trouble with XP "forgetting" my wireless settings, despite regularly using wireless hotspots with my laptop.

Hmm, happened to me all the time. My computer would just stop recognizing the network, or the printer would suddenly disappear. And I'd have to go and reenter that million-digit security code/network sharing wizard/etc to fix it. It might've been the router, but we still have it, and since every computer in the house but one has been upgraded to Vista/7 we haven't had a single problem with it.

Aha, could be that I only use wireless hotspots, which are insecure, and never use wireless at home.
