HI everyone, my first post here, im just about to finisth the game which i find great and i would like to know if anybody here know a way to survive when you open the door to the outer world (the one you need the key from the king just by the bar, and near the outpost) . I tryied with proteccion from cold (3 times) but seems it isnt enough. And, by the way is there any other way of getting that key other than killing the king?
Second Question: The Riddle quest for the heroism ring . I read that once you use the gem and get that message you can go directly to the spider cave to get the ring , can somebody explain where excatly and how exactly in that cave to get it? Im a bit desperate trying
Third There is a room almost at the begining of the game down with the first spiders you can only open with a pickaxe much later. But i saw nothing of interest in the room, is there anything there.

Hello!
I haven't found a way to survive the outside world, and I've tried more drastic measures. The fact that the designers put little tidbits like this in Arx makes it that much better. ;) I haven't been able to pickpocket the key off of the king, even while invisible with something like 250% stealth.
Questions 2 and 3 are related. The ring quest is perhaps the hardest or most obscure quest in the game aside from one other. There are six or seven steps to it, with each clue providing another note. The game is really picky about the steps being performed in the correct order. The first clue is in the tavern, where you're told to put an emerald in his chest. This chest is in his locked lab on Level 4. Inside is the next clue. The blocked room near the beginning of the game holds an invisible clue which can only be seen after the preceding steps are completed. If you want the full walkthrough for the quest and other side quests, check out (

Overall, I think the ring quest isn't worth the trouble since you have to visit most of the areas in the game to get it.

Huh, I always wondered what that door was. I so need to replay Arx, I think I missed most of the cool stuff.

What other drastic measures did you try to survive the outer world? Maybe with incredibly high constitution? with 5 prot from cold staked? any other idea? It's a bit dissapointing you MUST die when opened the door... (i even tried to open it in a save distance with telekinesis (but the animation shows me in front of the door like always...)
The ring quest: I have all the papers , read all the clues, still in the cave , in the spot where you must use a shovel i cant find, i try selecting the shovel and letting it fall on the floor, (though sometimes it disappears) i've tried to use it on the floor (double click on the shovel then select the floor) still nothing ...

To survive the outside world, you will need to consume the wine with the anti-freeze in it, which you can get off Pedro the Mexican in exchange for some apple pie.
Or you can just accept that Arx is a dungeon crawler and that they had no intention of creating an outside area :). By ensuring that you die straight away, saved them the trouble of having to develop any further content and concentrate on the type of game that they set out to create.
I just have to tell about your first question! Just a real solution:
If the SUN dies (You can catch the info if you watch the story teller movie in the beginning of the game) tehre will be no any more life in the surface! This why Ylsides Dwarves Humans and so on... get to underground life! That door leads you to the surface! You MUST freeze if teher is no SUN! Just think over it! Don't be foolish ;) !!!!

While ive was sitting into the wee hours of the morning i came up for an idea, if i had something to do with the game; couldnt it be fun if you could use a sword to skin the dragon after youve killed it? Maybe that should make one able to make armor out of it to withstand the cold...just playing:ebil:
So Twisty, who now? Pedro the mexican? where is he?
(does one still need the shild of ancients, high magic resistance, Krahoz&Zohark or does all that not matter?)
Kutzafas>> I beg to dissagree. The guild of travellers can walk the outside, so of course it must be possible somehow. Dont talk dont to people, like were foolish.
By the way, did anyone, like me, find Akbaa fairly easy to beat? I found it much to be a little anti-climactic (is that right? - english is not my first language)

Yeah, why in the hell we need to stay inside that old cave? The outside landscape must be impressive!:D
