Let's talk some more specifics about competitors. Let me start by positing a competitor that I think could finish us off: A locust-like insect. Without modern insecticides, and with crop choices already heavily stressed by environmental conditions, a swarm of locusts finishes of our remaining crops, while subsisting on other surviving weeds well enough that they don't just die off when we do.
I'm having a great deal of difficulty envisioning anything much larger doing the job, though. Anything large enough that we could trap or hunt. Cows can eat things we can't - so we eat them. (Pretty easy to envision us driving them to extinction and then dying, but that wouldn't be getting outcompeted.) Long before modern civilization - or even ancient history, really - humanity spread to virtually every land-based niche on the planet. From the igloos of Alaska to the desert nomads, we were already there. And what outcompeted us? Anywhere, ever? Penguins in Antarctica? Basically sea creatures, I'd argue.

Hmm... what about the not all that modern insecticides, though, like DDT? It's still quite effective. I'd bet on a disease, myself. Way harder to combat, IMO.

Apparently there are far fewer plastic bags on UK beaches since the introduction of a charge for them: 5p per bag. Apart from that I do feel doomed and no doubt will be firing off more complaints to the BBC website about their endless Trump coverage. They more or less patronise me and I give 'em hell - on a nightly basis.

It could be worse, Nickie. Trump could be your president.

I believe most sushi destined fish are farm raised, Abysmal. You probably don't have much to worry about on that front.

The amount of cover he gets over here, he might as well be. I feel another blistering complaint coming on. Just because I can.
Edit. Good grief, they might just have listened to me at last: one tiny report about the 'richest cabinet'.
