Oh yeah, he has reviewed a small handful of games compared to the thousands of articles he writes about the tech and gaming industry.
Also I saw him beating that level on Cuphead, so I don't think there's any problem there. Turns out things are very different if you're not playing the game at a busy convention for the first time and getting distracted talking to the developer at the same time. Not that he was reviewing Cuphead in the first place.
Hmm.. it's almost as if some people are taking things out of context, misrepresenting them, and blowing things out of all proportion for political reasons.

The video's pretty bad, but it's also almost context-free. We have no idea if he was half(or third, or quarter)-assing it on purpose, talking to a dev about features while twiddling the map screen, or whatever. Also, which rational adult gives a fuck? You don't need to be a politician to be a journalist or a director to be a film critic, and even then I don't think he's reviewed much of anything. If his reporting was a similar slurry of babby learns videyao gaems, we'd have an actual problem.

Yeah, the guy's not gonna win any awards for his videogame playing skizzillz, but hell, I was more interested in how he was navigating those big, open spaces. It's like Doom mixed with Dishonored. Disoom. Or Dooshonored, if you prefer.
Kinda clashes with the simple shoot 'n scoot gameplay people most associate with Doom, but it could be interesting.

Lots of previews saying it has more platforming challenges dotted around because of its enhanced mobility in comparison to Doom 2016. Also that chain grapple thing makes enemies into mobile grapple points, so that's going to be very interesting as long as they don't do something stupid like let you kill an enemy that was meant to platform you into an optional part of the level (they wouldn't do that... would they? :weird:).

Also, him meleeing the ammo box thing... why exactly is it a bad thing that he's trying to figure out if that glowing container he can't pick up is interactable with in some other way?

I doubt they'll require you grapple an enemy for any mission critical bits, but you and I both know they're going to use and abuse it for finding secrets.
As for pistolwhipping the health pickup, yeah, that's something I'd probably try once or twice.

Doom pickups are typically tuned for immediacy. It's a bit dumb not to grok that the glowing thing you can walk through isn't doing anything because you don't need it. Or maybe he thought it was Gauntlet 3D for a second and he has a hardwired tendency to shoot the food.

Yeah. Of course they will. And yet it makes me so mad.

Yeah, but if you're new to the game, how would you know for sure and what's the harm in trying?
Anyway, sounds like there's quite a bit more story and lore. Warning -- minor spoilers:

Yeah, in isolation it's not really a thing to be arsed about. I think Takahashi is just really good at mining that rich vein of social dysphoria that makes people want something to be indignant assholes about.

This from the series that famously inspired Carmack's quote about story in a game being like story in a porn movie. He's since (
https://twitter.com/id_aa_carmack/status/1030511549688016899?) recanted ever so slightly, but I don't think Doom really sits well with a big fuck-off story. It's better at the margins, because the core is all about opening jars of raspberry jam with a double-barrelled shotgun.

Not all that enthusiastic about all the platforming either. Plus add to that all the upgrades and unlocks and it really sounds like it's a different game altogether.
