From the way you're speaking of it, Catbarf, I'm assuming you haven't played Doom64. This is something you need to remedy. Post haste.
Like now.
My personal, humble opinion? It's easily the best of all the Dooms.
Is there a way to play without owning a N64?

emulators? legality may vary.

I'm sure there's a Doom 64 WAD out there, let me have a dig.
Edit: (
http://www.doom2.net/doomdepot/abs-download.html) Yer tis, Doom 64 Absolution.
It's not exactly the same, but it's as close as you're going to get legitimately.

I guess part of what made Doom so great was all the ports. I think they were a gateway that got a lot of people to cross over from console gaming to PC gaming.
I played the Sega 32X version first, which was pretty much a direct port of the original PC shareware version. The original soundtrack is a classic and the ambient Doom that Renz posted just doesn't seem right.
For me, 50% of the Doom experience was the sound effects and soundtrack.

Yeah, my introduction to Doom was the Atari Jaguar version. There were slight differences in some of the levels, missing power-ups and monsters, as well as 5 missing maps and no music, but it still rocked.

Legitimately, yeah. Absolution is the way to go. Illegitimately? (
https://doom64ex.wordpress.com/) Doom64EX. It's a standalone source mod, but it has tools to rip the wads directly from the N64 rom.

Beyond that though. Awesome stuff. Hell looks like actual hell this time :).
Is there something you're not telling us, icemann? :p

No one's complaining that the chainsaw animations are way too long and will get extremely repetitive? Worse yet, if they aren't cancellable it will lead to stupid deaths.
