Video game box art has always been mostly terrible. I guess it's just one of the areas where there's not a lot of need for artistry and a lot of pressure to target certain demographics, etc.
Also, if video game covers were representative of the game, Doom 3 cover would've looked like this:

Hah, yes. Doom 3 did give you the courtesy of actually coming face-to-maw with that beastie on the cover, though.
I miss video game manuals, that's where some of the really cracking art went.

A closed beta key magically appeared in my Steam library, so I guess this is what I'm going to be playing this weekend. Anyone else?

I'd like to see the cacodemon being visually closer to the original. unless the floaty thing seen in the video is the pain elemental.

I gave the multiplayer 45 minutes and I'm not impressed. It's not bad at all - just underwhelming, and there's no chance I'd buy the game for it.
It's hard for me to pin down why. Most of the multiplayer games I go to these days are a bit 'specialist', and it's been a hell of a long time since I was 15 and totally engrossed in Unreal Tournament, so I don't have anything current to compare it to that isn't nostalgia. I've been goofing around in Unreal Engine 4 for a couple of months, and playing Doom has made me install the Unreal Tournament alpha just so that I have something to make a comparison with.

I just read the (
http://www.pcgamer.com/doom-multiplayer-beta-impressions-the-good-the-bad-and-the-demons/) PC Gamer multiplayer beta impressions, and someone in the comments asked if it was an April Fool's joke.
Which compels me to ask those of you playing the beta: Are these comments from PC Gamer legit?
"loadout system that lets you customise your weapon set with unlocks"
"numbers that pop out of enemies’ heads when you shoot them"
If so, that's pretty bizarre. I mean, maybe the game can still be worthwhile, but that seems like a developer pretty out of touch with its fanbase.

There's no NDA on the Beta, you can find tons of footage on YT and see for yourself.

Does the singleplayer have that stuff too?
Slasher on 2/4/2016 at 16:21
I haven't seen those damage numbers in the official singleplayer videos I've watched, so maybe they can be toggled or are absent altogether.
I'm guessing singleplayer won't restrict you to specific loadouts, or only carrying two weapons. That would be a major bummer. I'm okay with weapon upgrades as long as they don't run the usual gamut of "tactical scope, Better tactical scope, Even Better tactical scope, Sexy Beast tactical scope, etc."
