I like the Icon of Sin version but the other one is terrible. It's worse than the official cover. But it appears I'm in the minority because everyone's jizzing over this stupid piece of fanservice. It proves that fans make decisions that are just as bad as the ones of a marketing department.

I agree, I'd rather have the nice black one on my shelf than the almost comedic original-style one.
But I don't buy games in boxes any more?
Edit: 63% of people have no taste.

Ok, I have no taste, so obviously B, by much. After all, this game is comedic, it wan't in the time it belongs, but now it is.

Version B looks like a fanart, a cheap throwback to the original cover without actually understanding why it worked in the first place. The Doomguy looks cartoonishly bulky, the proportions are weird... For the record, the original cover wasn't exaggerated like that. I'm really baffled by that. I mean, I usually disagree with the 'majority' anyway so maybe it's my taste that's horrible but in this case... I just don't understand it at all. Check out any gaming site, EVERYONE prefers the second option. In fact, they act as if it's absolutely obvious. To me it's absolutely obvious that it's a terrible box art.
I honestly prefer the generic Doomguy version rather than Ver.B and that's saying something.

I don't know about other parts of the world but in Poland it actually makes no sense to buy digitally if the game has a retail version. DOOM4 is priced at 175zl, but if you buy on Steam it's 60 Euro - ~258zl. The PC digital version is actually more expensive than a retail console version.

I don't think the original Doom box art 'worked' either, because it's basically a guy in armour fighting a horde of nasties, so I fail to see any deeper meaning or resonance to it. Here, you get Bruce Campbell in power armour fighting a horde of nasties, with a busier colour palette and less dramatic nicety than the original. Not the best homage, but not the worst, either.
Now cover art is not something I'd care about personally, because I stopped buying retail about 4 years ago; but the Icon of Sin one? That is something that would have made everyone's moms ensure their kids steered clear of the thing, which is exactly why it would have been cooler if we were kids. Sans that, I think it's a stylish piece of art, but one that doesn't represent the game inside much.

In any case, Master Chief is still the official box art.

Amazon is usually cheaper than Steam for new releases, that's certainly true.
But then you need to wait for it to arrive and find somewhere to put the box.

Huh? That's pretty much what Doom is about :|

Yes.
