or the pause while you pick a weapon.
It's not a pause, it's slo-mo a la Witcher 2/3's radial menus for picking Signs, bombs, etc.
Also said radial menu in Doom would probably only be a concern if you're playing with gamepad. PC version will HIGHLY LIKELY have instant switch numbered hotkeys for KB+M players, i.e. no different than the rest of the Doom series.

Looks like Doom with a few weird concessions to modern-day FPSes in that it has ADS and finishing moves, which aren't exactly necessary in anything named 'Doom'.
There's no "true ADS" in the game, just looking down scopes like you would say the sniper rifle in Halo (a series that also doesn't have "true ADS" per say).
Oh and the finishing moves are (

Just once I'd like to see an FPS with pretty modern graphics, but no changes to 1995's gameplay. Maybe there's a Kickstarter niche for such a game...
Depending on what you consider acceptable changes, Serious Sam, Painkiller, Hard Reset, Rise of the Triad 2013, or Shadow Warrior 2013 might hit the mark.

The second video looks much better and more interesting than the first.
It's a bit hard to tell with the low quality of the videos, but the monsters seem to look a bit samey. That was a problem with them in Doom3 as well, compared to the very distinctive original sprites where every creature looked completely different.
The "lootsplosion" when monsters die, showering the area with ammo and health, seem really out-of-place in a Doom game, though. Makes me think of the ridiculous mess that you get in Divinity: Original Sin when you kill an enemy with a lot of items.
Not overly fond of the fact that it seems to keep covering the screen with "gamey" HUD elements, either. Highlighting the lootsplosions, highlighting bits of enemies (presumably for QTEs), slowing down when you pick weapons (but I assume that on PC you'll still be able to select weapons with 1-9), etc.
A few of the weapons seem to lack "oomph", too. The basic shotgun in particular looks very underwhelming. I suspect it will be the basic weapon (e.g. no pistol), and shotguns in id games like that (Quake 1) always feel underwhelming.

Rise Of The Triad 13 is the only one of those games that really resembles old Doom or Build gameplay in any way. TBH, the only other modern game I can think of that fits that niche is Wrack.

Well, not really. It has this preoccupation with rocket launchers and jumping platforms and it mostly adheres to the original ROTT rather than Doom or Duke 3D or what have you. But if you want to be circle-strafing, rocket-jumping and twitch-shooting your way through ludicrous gibs, this is your best bet.
All of these games change the 1990s formula, some more some less, but I think they all capture a certain spirit of the old games at least. Hence the disclaimer of "depending on what you consider acceptable changes".

Yeah I'm a big Serious Sam and Painkiller fan. I enjoyed the new Shadow Warrior, but it had way too much plot, and the plot was crap.
I suppose I'm just lamenting that old style FPSes are the niche rather than the mainstream these days. With that in mind, fingers crossed this Doom is a big success and we get more like it, and/or other developers pushing it further in the old school direction.

The problem there is that while shotguns in other id games may have been underwhelming, they knocked it out of the park with the original Doom shotgun. I still judge any shotgun in an FPS by that standard, and they've all been found wanting.
Personally, even that "Hell" video didn't warm me to the game, but I'm just a grumpy old cynic.
Lootsplosions, weapon-switch pause, slow movement, lengthy finishing moves that will become tedious after the second one, constrained levels with lots of decoration outside of the field of play that can't be interacted with, grumble, grumble, grumble.
That and the promotion has left a nasty taste in my mouth. This feels less like an id Software game to me and more about Bethesda trying desperately to stamp their identity on the IP.
But then, id aren't really id any more anyway.

No one's complaining that the chainsaw animations are way too long and will get extremely repetitive?
Yes, I complained about that already on page 2. Before anyone else. Making me the coolest guy in this thread.
Also that new ROTT game sucked. It sure was true to the original, and there sure was a lot of terrible stuff about the original that my nostalgia lenses had erased. Shadow Warrior is a much better example of how to bring a 90's shooter back. (yes yes I'll stop going on about how good the Shadow Warrior reboot was now. after this post.)

Just how good was the Shadow Warrior reboot, Henke? I bought it during one of the Humble Bundles, but I haven't played it yet.
