id and Bethesda have released the first teaser for the new DOOM game at E3, after nearly 6 years since the initial announcement. The full blown reveal will happen during QuakeCon, July 17-20.

Paging Mr. Tibbs!
It's a cheap teaser video, but the mere fact that it's something after 6 years of silence says a lot to me.

Yeah, that put a smile on my face too :)

I suspect it will be a mixture, given the industry's predilection for nostalgia. Doom 3 came out at a time when games were still aping Half-Life; it wasn't until 2007 when the Call of Duty method began to take over (though to be fair it was mostly stealing its gameplay mechanics from Halo.) Whereas Wolfenstein: The New Order was abundantly silly underneath its super-serious veneer, and knew it.

Question is, will it be like Doom 1 & 2 of action fest, fighting off hordes of demons. Or more in the survival horror style of 3, with it more working off jump scares.
I'm expecting the latter.
It's hard to say how much of that still holds true considering there was a major restart in late 2011, early 2012, but it was initially described as more action-packed than DOOM 3, a famous comment from Carmack saying it'll have "30 demons crawling all over you". But again, that was before the restart. The current direction is shrouded in mystery so far.

I hope for Hordes, and I mean HORDES of enemies. No more closets.
(which should not mean that they have to include a turretsection)

Hopefully it doesn't go TOO FAR in EITHER direction. Being too modern and getting a heavily CoD-esque experience, i.e. heavy with scripted sequences and minimal player engagement like waiting for NPCs to open doors. I've experienced so many copypastas of CoD4's "All Ghillied Up" (which wasn't even that great to begin with anyway) to last me a lifetime as this point.
Too old school and you might get the fucking maze-like maps and key hunts... holy fucking shit that aspect from that era's FPSes was bloody terrible. "EVERYTHING IS DEAD NOW AND I'VE BEEN WANDERING AROUND THIS EMPTY MAP FOR 2+ HOURS NOW." I swear that experience dominated a huge majority of my childhood whilst playing FPS games.

I was so glad that for the most part, Duke 3D's maps are relatively straightforward. Partly because the attempt at realism meant they couldn't get too abstract, unlike, say, Doom or Rise of the Triad.
