1. what's 'aliVe'
Very old mod. Extended many smart terrains to simulate factions fighting for parts of levels.

2. you can find corpses to loot sometimes
The scripted ones.

3. strange example with AMK since using AMK enhances off-line alife a lot, with stalkers looting corpses, getting new weapons and 'selling' some of the items to the trader.
I never, ever saw any Stalker actually go to a trader, which is further evidenced by the fact that they accumulate tons of stuff(You made one example of it yourself).
But you're right, they do pick off bodies and artifacts lying around, so that's one proof A-life is actually there.

Dunno when i first fired up Stalker i was instantly intrigued :o
Sounds like youre looking for a tactical FPS like Hidden and Dangerous or something and Stalker wasnt made with that kinda gameplay in mind, sure the AI is smart enough to do some flanking and hiding but thats about it. Like you say the tactical aspect boils down to a) attack or run and b) attack from where and with what weapon. Its appeal for most people who like it is in soaking up the world (well ya know, go aah and ooh at how bleak and radioactive everything is xD ) and in the semi-realistic survival/gathering elements...i suppose.
Prolly not your type of game v:erm:v

There's very few scripted corpses and I know it's not those, it might not be offline alife meaning they're killed while you're in the level but still.

That's offline alife though, and it's kept in offline alife because of comfort, they don't have to script the whole going to a trader thing, just wait until the player isn't in the level and then automatically transfer the items to the trader's inventory and give the seller some rubles.
That and they only sell certain types of items so what they don't sell can accumulate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but every enemy you kill drops 20-30 bullets for his weapon. And from Garbage onwards that weapon is either MP5(Which is very good actually) or AK74U(which is less accurate but hits harder than MP5). And that's not counting pistols. So what you're telling me is that on average you spend more than 20 bullets on a single enemy?
The TRS301 is the only weapon I've found so far that can reliably hit things at a range of more than 30 feet. And there's only a particular type of bandit who uses it. So when I find an AK47 that's far less accurate than what I've got, naturally I don't pick it up.
And if the enemy is a mutant, 20 bullets isn't out of the question. Maybe my mouse is bad but in STALKER it seems to only be able to move in about 15-pixel intervals. Getting headshots at a distance is very difficult.

What is TRS301?
Have you tried LR300(+scope), SIG550(+scope), G36, or Vintorez?
PS: I see, TRs301 is fictional name for LR300. Yes, it's not bad, but any sniper rifle or Vintorez is better for the purpose, G36 is good too. But I personally like Grom (fictional for Groza) mostly for its power, it's my universal weapon for the most part of the game.

I haven't found any of those yet. Keeping my eye out for a good scope.

By the way, slaughtering entire military outpost at Cordon with what, AK-74U? Not bad.
I can't really claim hardcore props for that ... I was happily slaughtering along, when one of the guys came within a meter of where I was hiding, and I realised that the visibility modifiers I was getting from hiding in this particular bush was a bug, not a feature.
After a bit more experimentation it turned out that hiding in a bush right next to a tree stopped the AI from seeing me untill they were almost on top of me, so I stopped using that tactic. But not before I had killed most of the people in the outpost.
Also, one of the pistols I have found is modded and has high accuracy. It is the only reason I am able to kill people from a reasonable distance. From Aja's comments, I appear to have been very lucky to find it.

It does sound like STALKER isn't quite what I was expecting. From the acolade's it has got here, I guess I was expecting the world to be a bit more interactive, and I was expecting to have more of a variety of tactics at my disposal. While I appreciate the atmosphere, I don't go nuts for the whole post-apoc vibe ... so it definately isn't enough to carry the game for me.
Still, from Muzman's comments, the game may get interesting enough later on - so I will keep plugging away.

Which modded pistol?
Have you done agropom underground yet? As for varied tactics, there are a couple of missions (stealing the docs from agropom and the cordon base) which can be very fun to stealth, provided you can find the right route. Only problem is, it's pretty damn hard to do it in vanilla stalker and it's pretty much just a matter of time before you set off the alarm and have to make a dash for it. Plus, without a sleeping bag mod you'd have to wait around until nightfall.
Stalker's a game that's better with a few mods on it but vanilla stalkers still brilliant the first time, though it's got a fair learning curve on it and it's perhaps a little harder to get your teeth into than most. At least get to and play through rostok, since it's one of the best areas of the game.

AliVe mod
One of the best, IMO. It lacks a lot of the interesting extra stuff and embellished systems of AMK et al, but in terms of being an a-life mod where effort was made to keep the game playable as well as a bit more dynamic, it won out as the best Stalker experience I had. More migration of animals, stalkers and troops, territory changing hands and unpredictability in what you'd find where. I was really disappointed by the way you more or less always had the same groups in the same places in the vanilla game.
I found fights broadcast by the AMK system quite a few times? Maybe I was playing a different version than you.
On topic: Chade, if you're not getting into it by now, I personally reckon go as far as the bar and if you're not into it by then... well, it continues to pick up in my view, but the fundamentals remain.
Koki on 6/12/2008 at 09:08
Well there's only one version of AMK unless you're russian.
The problem with aliVe was that all that camp changing really messed up some quests, i.e. you could get a quest to kill bandits at the Garbage, except Stalkers were there at the time - which means Stalkers got flagged and that's who you were supposed to kill. AFAIK they never managed to fix it.
