Dumb newbie question, but if you have say 2 bullets in the clip loaded in your gun and you then reload to get a full clip by pressing ":", do you lose the 2 bullets? I get that impression as your weapon display goes from showing 2 shots and say 5 clips to showing a full ammount of shots and only 4 clips. If so, it creates a tension between trying to conserve ammo and avoiding having to reload in a firefight.
Thanks for any advice!

Nearest I can recall, no. If it did, then I musta had a lot of ammo, cause I go through those prod chargers like nothin'. So, no.

Simon, it would be easy for you to test. Just shoot 1 shot in a clip and then reload. Do that about 10 times and it should be apparent if the left over ammo is being discarded.

I always avoid reloading because when I started, I thought that I did lose ammo. But I've learned that you don't. It's easy enough to see. Go to your inventory screen and click your weapon. At the right, it shows you information including how much ammo you have. Fire a shot, reload, and check your ammo again. It only goes down by one.

Thanks for the answers everyone. Drew, I realised sometime after posting that it should be easy to test. Guess that's why it's a dumb newbie question. Somehow I tend not to do in-game experiments to understand game mechanics - too caught up in the atmosphere I guess (just got to that cargo plane in the NSF airfield and my head is spinning  ).
