Just drink diet coke...all of you...diet coke, and you'll be fine.

I tried that, but the copious amount of rum wasn't co-operating.

why Diet Coke? is there some mystical heat neutralizing property in artificial non-sugar sweeteners that I am unaware of?

But diet coke is naaaasty. If you want to taste the taste of synthetic there you have it.
And I lived in/have been to more than one country in Africa Shayde, all of which had wonderful hot weather. I suupose I should have said:
"I love summer. I loved it in Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and Malawi too, where it was seriously hot (but more varied than you might think you dirty Africa homogenizooors! )".
And even though I'm working (indoors) this weekend I'm still loving the weather. "Come to England for summer. Avoid our crappy weather (almost) and get a break from the insane heat in your own backyards".

I prefer "normal coke" and pepsi over diet coke, would those also work? ;)

Finally, temperatures here at the western end of Germany seem to be okay again, thus I've had a refreshing sleep again - the first in two or three weeks. The only other refreshing sleep-like thing was dozing for about one hour on the concrete floor of our cellar. This was better than three or four hours of attempted sleep in a bed.
Two days ago, the temperature inside my room was 30 degrees Celsius, even at three o'clock in the morning. For several days, of course. Even after I left the window open for one night when outside temperatures reached 24°C, the room kept it's 30°C. I had not only a completely sweat-soaked bed (complete with salt crusts in several places), but one day I inhaled liquid sweat through the nose: I found myself lying in a small puddle of liquid sweat. Man, I was pissed that day! Especially when some people here made fun of my thoughts about where this heat just inside the room might come from... and then their last remarks were usually something like "Oh, you can't do anything about it. Just wait, it will be over sometime in the future." (Is it really forbidden to kill one's relatives...?)
This from the people who retreat, just past noon, to areas of the house where it's 4 to 6 degrees colder, and where it actually gets even colder during the night.
And don't tell me about humidity... I can actually feel the humidity I create myself by sweating. From about 29°C upwards, even a big fan positioned near my legs does not help any more.
Furthermore, several pieces of electronic hardware failed during this heat, and when cooling was improved and/or speed was lowered, things went better. Dear hardware manufacturers... would you please build mainboards and components that work even when their internal temperatures reach 40 to 45°C? (You know, older ones still work reliably at such temperatures...)
I hope this has been the first and last heat wave of this summer. I've had enough for this year.
