I am not sure how these alternative medicines are studied, but as far as I know the results are mostly based on statistics.

I don't know about that particular one, but I do know that some very convincing scientific studies "proved" that Eccinaciea (spelling?) DOESN'T do anything to help you fight off a cold, and it was (is still?) one of the best selling supplements in the country.
IIRC, it helps reduce the symptoms, but the cold must still run its course.

LOL! You'd make a fine spokesperson for the product.

Just to answer the original question with my own experience...
Way back when, I had trouble remembering tasks in order. Mom would lay out 4 things to do in the mornings before school, and I'd do one and forget all the rest. This went on from about 8 years old till 12 or so, till I finally snapped out of it (We now believe that I was doing it just to piss off my parents, or something). The pharmecist recommended Ginkgo biloba. It did fuck all for my memory, and made me hyperactive like you wouldn't believe.
The irony of all this is that I just gleaned this info off my mom. I only have vague memories of the incidents.
To go further, I havent' heard a whole lot about this Ginkgo Biloba. The wonder drug seems to be ginseng nowadays, which at least has some history and support behind it. What irks me is how people can't seem to decide what is a correct dose. Some suggest taking it 3 weeks, and then then laying off for a week. Some say that a daily pill is fine and healthy.
They also say that you shouldn't take caffeine with it, but noone is clear on how much caffeine is too much. I drink orange Pekoe tea alot, which has miniscule amounts of caffeine (last I checked, I'd need to chug three cups of tea straight away to equal one cup of coffee for caffeine). Does this mean I have to give up the orange pekoe, the green tea, and the Chai tea, just because they all have caffeine? Does anyone really know?
Heh heh heh, I just kinda sorta maybe halfassed hijacked the thread.
