It's supposed to increase blood flow to the brain and improve memory and concentration, but I haven't seen any hard evidence as to whether it works. It's the most commonly sold dietary supplement in the US, but that doesn't mean it works, maybe people just think it will make 'em smarter. All I've heard are cheesey testimonials on infomercials, a few people say it's crap, but no clinical trials. So anyone know anything about it?

I don't know about that particular one, but I do know that some very convincing scientific studies "proved" that Eccinaciea (spelling?) DOESN'T do anything to help you fight off a cold, and it was (is still?) one of the best selling supplements in the country. Heck, you could even add that junk to your fruit smoothie at the local Jamba Juice shop to order the "Cold Warrior" blend.

Is that sarcasm? Because I do take a fuckload of garlic when I feel sniffly, just incase.
What the hell are ginseng, St. John's wort, and eccinacea do aside from the aforementioned things? Because we used to have some ginseng and ginko biloba here and I was wondering if there was any kind of health benefit at all...
I mean, while obviously pharmaceuticals will cause a more immediate change, there are drawbacks/side-effects, and if supplements help, then that's indicative of a (likely society-wide) dietary gap... so... I wouldn't mind taking a fuckton (not to be confused with the metric fucktonne) of supplements (hell, I already do, multivitamin and garlic, sometimes fishoil -- all large capsules) if it'll help even a little, if it'll compensate for problems that don't even usually arise but could, so on.

Not sure what to believe. I use it anyway, but then I even enjoy the scent of Valerian Root.

With you it might work - because you think with yours.

Supplements can have side-effects, as can food.
And yes, garlic is good for colds. Now I don't have any scientific proof, but it's one of those wives-things.

Heh, I was being half sarcastic half serious. I grew up taking elderberry and garlic and all the ol hippy remedies, it certainly never hurt me and it did seem like I didnt get sick as often and it was never as bad, so who knows, it tastes bad enough it has to fucking do somthing.
