Does anyone's else Hotmail account carry a ton of junk mail recently? - by Renegen

For the past 2 weeks or so I've been getting 5-10 junk mails directly to my inbox and it hasn't stopped no matter how many I've tagged as junk. Before Hotmail had a pretty good junk system where your inbox would only contain legitimate e-mails, it was good at automatically sorting it out. Now it can't do it anymore, is it just a flicked off switch somewhere or MS accepting money while screwing us over? /conspiracy.
And how are other e-mail services out there?

Poor you :p

http://www.ttlg.com/dave/catchall.pngAre they image spam? Recently there has been a huge uptake in spam that is just a single image containing text. It is very hard for spam filters to block these as they all tend to look for patterns, yet the spammers generate random background colours, font colours, font sizes, font types, positions etc so each mail ends up like a snowflake - unique.

I made the mistake of using my g-mail address once for a sign-up account and ever since I've received about ten to twenty spam e-mails a day, most of them go straight through the filter but the odd one pops up in my inbox.
Ironically, I have a 5 year or so old hotmail account with nary a single spam e-mail in all that time.

I was beginning to wonder the same thing, as my Hotmail account has been under the same barrage.
On another note, I used to own a couple of domains. If I had to sign up for some website because I bought something online, I would use the website's address as the email account. Like if I bought something from XYZCompany, the e-mail address I would use would be XYZCompany@mydomain.com That way, I would know if these companies were selling my e-mail address to others for spamming. So one day I got a spam e-mail using one of those websites addresses that said they were TRUSTe certified, and don't sell e-mail addresses, etc. I promptly forwarded all the information to their webmaster with a CC to (
http://www.truste.org/) TRUSTe. I see the website, that violated their owns claims of not spamming, is no longer a TRUSTe certfied site. :)
When all else fails, I set the SPAM filter to exclusive, and only change it when I need a new contact e-mailing me.

omg, not just me then. :o
For the last year or so i've had no problems with spam to speak of, maybe save the odd one every month or so. Then, around two weeks ago i all of sudden start getting ~10-20 each day.:erg:
But strangely enough, it's only on my main/public used hotmail, another one i have has no problems with it what so ever.

Interesting, maybe I should make a second.
But right now my hotmail account, like most people I presume, is too integrated in my life and it would be too much of a hassle to change everything. Maybe we should 'spam' them with a few mail bombs of our own, to get this into the public forum and have something done about it.
edit: most of what I got is stuff like medications and crap, I don't know about unique designs.

You could try setting your account to exclusive if it's primarily for personal use. Only allow mail from senders who you know about. If you need an open account for CV's, online ordering etc then just create another.
Not at all ideal i know....:erg:

My Gmail account, fortunately,* blocks all spam. However, I do get shitloads. I'll just get a screenie, hold on...
* Knock on wood
EDIT: The server I use for hosting stuff is down, sorry I can't share this irrelevent and irritating glimpse into my mind with you.
