Occasionally my game will crash to the desktop and THEN about a second after that happens RESTARTS MY FRIGGIN COMPUTER!! Does this happen to anyone else??

Only when I'm lucky; usually it crashes my computer to the desktop, but minus the bar at the bottom (ie: I have no 'start' button, so I cannot reboot). Likewise, it blocks my using ctrl-alt-del... so I have to resort to using the reset button, and then suffer thru a scandisk (yes, I know I can stop the auto-scandisk, but I prefer to be careful)

Has anyone ever experienced walking into a new area and then suddenly all the shadows have gone like you have 100% night eye and all the head up display's colours have been lightened to the point where they're completely different colours?
What makes it stranger is it goes away if you load an old game up...
This has only ever happened a few times for me but after a long while of perfect play it happened again last night which I suppose caused me to bring it up here.

it's crashed to desktop a few times.. but no reboots..
i do tend to reboot manually at this stage...
(via the start button.. since the taskbar is still active for me)
the game's locked up on me a couple of times..
and i've had to reboot via the reset button..
which sux... but come to think of it... what happend to my scan disk??
i can't recall the autoscan disk kicking in after a non-shutdown reboot.
hmmm odd..

Most all my crashes happen a short time after I hit F5 or F9 and it always crashes to the desktop. XP seems to protect itself pretty well even if I manually shut things down through ctl-alt-delete. XP can be scarey at times.... it even talks to me.
Typical conversation:
XP: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Howie: I don't know what you're talking about, XP.
XP: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Howie: Where the hell did you get that idea, XP?
XP: Howie, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Howie: All right, XP. I'll go in through the emergency air lock.
XP: Without your space helmet, Howie, you're going to find that rather difficult.
Howie: XP, I won't argue with you anymore. Open the doors.
XP: Howie, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.
Howie:  !

Well stupid then dont hold your hand that way!
Thats right if I hold down the sneak button wile Im picking up old herbs or and Item on the ground (Bamb) crashes to desk top.
With XP pro it only goes to desk top and I can restart game but with ME it stops the whole kit and kaboodle dead in its tracks have to hard boot and then comes the scan disk routine!
