I've got a few scenarios for you guys and was wondering how the game changes if you do it one way vs another....
#1. In the beginning of the story you capture and try to interrogate a NSF leader. At the end of the interrogation a guard comes up the flight of stairs in the Statue of Liberty and takes him prisoner...
Q: What happens if you kill the guard (allowing the NSF leader to not be captured) and leave?
#2: Remember the time when you are in Paul's hotel room in NYC and the guards come busting in the room and he tells you to go out the window while he holds them off? Paul eventually dies in that scene if you don't stay with him and fight them off.
Q: What happens if you stay and fight with your brother Paul and he doesn't end up dying?
#3: Theres a time when you come back off a train in the NYC subway and your partner Anna Navarre comes down the stairs. The game cuts to a talk scene and she eventually starts to kill you when she"s done talking to you. You can run up the stairs and your boss will ask you if you will go quietly or if they have to take you down. They have the top of the stairs blocked off with robots and guards...
Q: What happens if you run off the train and immediately try to open the air shaft that is on the other side of the platform against the wall. I was thinking if you crawled in it you could avoid talking to Anna and you'd be safe...At least until you came out of the vent shaft.
#4: There is a scene when you are on an airplane in a hanger. You are talking to some guy in the back of this pretty big jet. After you talk to him, Anna comes into the jet and kills him. You can either kill Anna first, or let her kill the guy you talked to in the back of the plane.
Q: What is the outcome if you kill Anna or if you don't kill her? How does the plot change?
These simple things I've always wanted to try have been bothering me since the game came out. I never was able to try them all. Can someone please try it or chime in please?
I've been dying to know for years!!!
Thanks!

#1: All that happens is you get bitched out for killing the guy. BTW, this is the earliest place you can get an assault rifle... :D
#2: You should try it. The key is to not go out the window - if you do, Paul dies, regardless of whether you defend him or not. You have to go out the front door for Paul to survive. Paul's survival doesn't really change the plot ("I'm too weak to do anything") but he does have several things to say to you later in the game.
#3: The vent shafts are blocked at the surface. There's no way to continue the game without being captured. Amusingly, it is possible (albeit difficult) to break through the cordon entirely, but all that does is leave you wandering around Battery Park eternally with nothing to do.
#4: Killing Anna here will get you bitched out a bit but doesn't really change the plot. You can actually knock Lebedev unconscious and tote him all the way to Tong's in Hong Kong if you really care about the guy, but again, it doesn't change the plot any.
Generally speaking, while there are a number of minor diversions you can take, the plot itself is not particularly amenable to change.

If you kill Anna, you get to know a lot more backstory from Lebedev. It doesn't change the overall arc of the story, but man it makes a difference to the player.

Also, the player gets THREE opportunities to kill Anna over the course of the game. First in Levedev's jet, then in the subway station, and finally at UNATCO (where it's mandatory unless you heavily exploit the AI).

I never tried to kill the trooper that comes up the stairs. Why would you, at that point of the game? He's on your side.
Saving Paul actually affects the game in several places. Nothing drastic mind you as that'd be unrealistic. But he's the central figure in the first half of the game and a good source of information. Plus he's your brother.
Obviously if you killed ANavarre on the 747 she doesn't show up in the subway. But each time she's killed Alex Jacobson will cover it up for you to protect you.
You really should play it again, if you still play games that is. There's so much nuance in DX that newer games just can't be arsed to copy cus they get rushed out.

Just to watch him die
You can knock him out and steal his gun if you're some kind of hippy peacenik
