Despite what they might teach you in marketing or politics, saying something over and over again doesn't make it true.
Saying something you don't know much about over and over again can make you look (dare I say) like a bit of a tool though.

er and we have all been and still play T1/T2 which is a 10 year old engine...
So your point is oxymoron..
biker
Thief 4 if released will be a new game, so the only thing oxymoronic is your lack of ability to comprehend.
No one argued when TDS was coming out regarding any other mods to look forward to, simply because Deadly Shadows was a single-player game with the latest technology. And that's what people are looking forward to. Fan made mods are simply not the same as a quality piece of work from publishers. I still don't think Dark Mod looks as good as Deadly Shadows, and the YouTube trailers look amateurish at best. So no, "lol have you not heard of the Dark Mod" is not a clever remark.

Well that's good then, because my intent was to inform...not to be clever.

That's becoming less and less true. Developers simply don't have the time or resources to invest in their games, unless they're particularly well off. Independent fan made mods are gaining ground on production houses that simply can't spare the time anymore.

Well, TDM vs. Deadly Shadows graphics are a matter of taste, because I dislike the cartoonish look of TDS and much prefer the more realistic lighting we've been able to achieve in TDM. As for the trailers...I've seen worse done by some professional companies...again, a matter of taste.

What an incredibly stupid remark.
If they started today with the Crysis engine, you'd be complaining two years from now that it's written in what will be a severely dated engine in 2013.
Let's see
your total conversion on the engine of
your choice. Then you can crow your birdshit.
Didn't think so...

and to add to that . . . sometimes the devs don't have the same amount of passion for the project that the fans do
IMO, I really don't think the whole of ION had the same amount of passion for the TDS project that LGS had for TDP/TMA.
Either way, I'll say that I'm really looking forward to TDM. I honestly believe it will be a rather intriguing tool for the Thief universe. As much as I'd love to see a Thief 4 roll out, mostly in that having an "official" product will help to bring new fans into the fold, I don't want to see the core of what made Thief so drastically different, so intriguing and involving, so memorable and captive, be trashed for profit. If a company wants to make a thief-style game, based more in modern times, that's fine - I'd play it, but it wouldn't be "Thief" without "The City" or the Hammers or the Keepers and Pagans, without that industrialized medieval atmosphere. The characters can be changed, but The City cannot.

I don't know about a sequel seeing as Garrett became a goody-two-shoes keeper. Maybe a prequel could work. If you've ever read the fan-fictions 'A Keeper's Apprenticeship' and 'A Thief's Apprenticeship', there's a lot that could've happened in between training and the first mission. I think TDS started something, and that would be Thief meets GTA. I'm not talking about riding on horses and doing ride-bys, although it's quite a laugh, that was all ready done by GUN, I mean a main storyline, and then LOTS of side-quests, either for gold or new equipment, possibly other incentives, like an unlockable feature, ala Chronicles of Riddick, like a map of The City! Hahaha. That was evil;). As far as developers go, I couldn't help thinking Arkane could be good, I mean when I played DM, it just screamed thief when you played in stealth.

If ever they were to make a T4, I'd like to see some new equipment to the arsenal; like . . . caltrops, along with your flashbombs. Just drop 'em on the ground while fleeing and slow your enemies down (would prob be more effective on those that don't wear full armor - like pagans, peasants, priests). Or other odd stuff, like a Net Arrow - deploys a large net shortly after being fired, could slow down a couple of guards.
New equipment is a must, along with the old standards - and defi have rope arrows again!

Without Garrett, I don't think it would be as enjoyable. Prequel and Sequel have lots of possibilities. And honestly, I really don't care who develops it (I have my preferences though) as long as its still a thieving stealth-based game. O_O

Im happy to hear you say that. Among the things that bothered me most about TDS was the cartoonish feel it had. It really destroyed the atmosphere and grit for me.

simply because Deadly Shadows was a single-player game with the latest technology.
If your definition of "latest technology" is "the Unreal 2 engine with most of the tried-and-tested code ripped out and replaced by a two-bit hack of a renderer coded by a single lone gunman at the request of management that was barely fit for purpose and hated by all of the other devs", then yes, I suppose you are right.
Maybe some people
like piss-poor performance, lighting artifacts, broken (or absent) animation blending, hardcoded size limits, unpredictable and non-optimised BSP generation, overcompressed textures, incorrect shadowvolume calculations and all of the other dazzling enhancements that Deadly Shadows brought us.
