Yes i will definitely buy a theif 4 if there ever is one. Even if it turns out to be a clinker i will take my chances and get it. Theif 1 and 2 were some of the best games ever developed. They were just great in every way - not perfect, of course - but just great. I had to use walkthroughs but the games were to me still very, very fun on all levels. The right pacing, plot elements, story elements and atmosphere that i keep hoping every other game will have but never does. Its a shame Looking Glass closed its doors (long ago) because it was obvious the people there really knew what they were doing when it came to game development.
I was slightly disapointed by Theif 3. Whereas 1 and 2 were A+ games this one was a B at most. Thankfully they kept Garrett and the other voices i came to really like but the artwork was simply not up to the level of the first 2 - it just looked wrong somehow. Also the way you morphed between areas in T3- rather then ending one story before beginiing another - just didnt work for me. I hope hope HOPE they are listening and return to the original genre or better if they do theif 4....theres talk that garret will be put into a more "modern" setting leaving the medieval theme completely - if so i can only wonder what that will look like at this point!

things seem to be moving at Eidos montreal. I spoke to the general manager in an interview at Arcadia Festival, and I got to visit their studios a few weeks ago, with all signs of the "T" project hidden... but we did get to ask questions to the leads on the project. Nothing reaaaaly interesting though. There was a lot of Deus Ex 3 concept art and stuff like that up.

Nothing more..
Wait what.. thug? Modern?
I can see their offices from my place... If it's true, it's sniping time.

Thief is about Garrett, about The City, about those factions involved, about robbing mansions and more. I cannot see how a modern thief can replace Garrett. I wonder what will he use instead of bow and arrows. MAC-10? No shadows to walk in, just well planned power cut-off? I really don't want a game like Splinter Cell with thief name on it. There are never ending stories about Garrett that are yet to be told. Part is our job to tell them by FM's and part in the next Thief games. Anyway , no mater what, we still have 3 wonderful Thief games that left a mark in our lives. Hope there will be more.

This may be nothing but since I just came across it during my lunch time browsing...
This blogger claims to be a developer who worked on Deus Ex 3 for a while this year. In an off-handed way he mentions that he was also hoping to get to work on the Thief project while he was there.

This isn't a terribly exciting post and I have no idea if he is legit, but scanning through the rest of the blog he doesn't seem like some kind of poser putting on airs or anything. *shrug*
Here's his MobyGames profile:

Nothing that would imply an association with Thief or Deus Ex. He seems to be a freelance game artist.

That's interesting. He seems to be having a tough time of it.
