I think the problem with any new game starring Garrett is that his character arc has been completely told. A prequel would require him to be even more naive and cocky than in Thief 1 (remember, before Cragscleft, he even scoffed slightly at the mines being haunted), and a sequel leaves no room for further development because Garrett has by that point accepted his responsibilities and, in gameplay terms, is unlikely to be an interesting character any more. Why do you think almost all fan missions are set "between Thief 1 and 2" or "between Thief 2 and 3"?

Agreed.
I, for one, have no wish for further adventures with Garrett, but The City and Keepers intrigue me much, and I'd like to explore The City through the observations of the Keepers, and maybe learn more about the older parts of town. The areas that are Hammer-centric, and the areas that have been buried and forgotten, such as the areas that extend beyond the current City's borders, but were once part of The City. I'd like to explore more of the hidden depths, and finally get to see the named-but-never-visited City districts. It doesn't have to be through Garrett's eyes.

Personally, I think that there is more to Garrett's story that could be told. I would like a Thief 4 with Garrett if for no other reason than to give our wonderful FM authors more to work with.:D

Ten levels of supervised observation and information gathering in The City for the Keepers, while flirting with thievery and showing the player how the Keepers really operated before corruption and stagnation set in--until the last three levels, where Garrett discovers just how powerful the Keepers could really be if they used their glyphs, knowledge, and abilities overtly--influencing directly. The final cutscene would be Garrett's anger and refusal of the Acolyte Ritual ceremonies, and the angry debate among the Keepers fading into the background as he leaves the Compound, immediately pickpocketing a noble on his way to find new digs.
:laff: :laff:
Actually, I'd love to see something to do with the Precursors, and the rise of the Keepers--sort of a history--leading into an in-depth discovery and exploration of the Lost City.
Just think the Mummy meets Thief!
Think about... Trust me, it works...
This could be a way to continue Garrett's story, by going to the beginning.

I've thought about it, and I think what I really just want is a first-person horror stealth game following in the footsteps of Thief. I really don't care if they choose a new character or even a completely new setting, but I want a stealth game again where the focus is less on looking cool and doing martial arts moves and more on the actual stealth. Standing still in Thief hoping that a guard doesn't brush up against you is infinitely more intense than acrobatically leaping through the air and beating down enemies, and I want a game that embodies that.
Also, first post in over a year! I wasn't active enough that people would be saying "hey, it's that guy!" but it feels good to be back.

I'm not fussy really, just as long as they show Viktoria naked.
Just kidding (sort of...) The main thing I would look for is something closer in spirit to Thief 1, the whole gloomy medieval style. Maybe it was because that ws my first experience of Thief, but I prefer dank flagstones to plush Mechanist interiors.(Although I did still very much enjoyThief 2)
Prequels are tricky, they too often seem contrived and Thief is definitely a game where any signs of "the developers made this one earlier" spoils the immersioin. Also if the developers decide on a prequel, I hope they watch carefully The Phantom Menace to see how *not* to make a prequel.

Yes another sequell with Garrett. Simply can't take a thief4 without the cynical Russels/Garretts comments.
+1... Russel is the best!
