Yea I'll take another Thief.
Still plenty of stories to mine from the Thief universe, the unwritten age, and all that good stuff.

Yes another sequell with Garrett. Simply can't take a thief4 without the cynical Russels/Garretts comments.

Another idea for a sequel would be to follow the factions trend of the previous games like TDP was the Pagans TMA was Hammerites/Mechanists etc. They could do T4 centered around The City Watch and possibly even the Baron(since he's only been referred to by name and never actually shown) Oh yes and it needs to have Benny in it.

Yes! I want a Thief 4!
But a PREQUEL with Garrett.
I would like to know what happened between the 'Keepers taking him in' and 'Lord Baffords Manor'.

10 levels, you say? I guess that would mean a good chance for professional version of "Bucket Get".

Mission objectives:
Eavesdrop on at least 4 conversations.
See if you can discover anything about this Drept character who's been nosing around, and report it to Artemus.
You are a Keeper, not a murderer. Look and listen but don't touch.
Read a passage from at least 5 books.
Don't be seen by anyone other than Artemus.
BONUS: Don't get caught stealing anything, but try to snag at least one valuable trinket.
Ten levels of supervised observation and information gathering in The City for the Keepers, while flirting with thievery and showing the player how the Keepers really operated before corruption and stagnation set in--until the last three levels, where Garrett discovers just how powerful the Keepers could really be if they used their glyphs, knowledge, and abilities overtly--influencing directly. The final cutscene would be Garrett's anger and refusal of the Acolyte Ritual ceremonies, and the angry debate among the Keepers fading into the background as he leaves the Compound, immediately pickpocketing a noble on his way to find new digs.
:laff:

I got the impression Garrett was a thief for quite a long time between the training level and Bafford's.

Although it's been discussed quite a bit, my feeling is that Garrett had been away from the Keepers for years, having left in his early twenties (according to TDS), making him closer to his thirties, if not older. But other than his approximate age when he left the Keepers, there is nothing definitive or consistent, therefore it's too subjective.
I think it's safe to say most agree it's been years, but apparently uneventful. At least, he hasn't gotten caught between the factions in any significant way. Only recently, it seems, by the time of Bafford's, has he gotten the attention of the crime lords, by name. Almost none of the major locations he goes to have been visited by him, and he hears more rumor than concrete facts about many locations. It's almost as if he's been a petty thief, until the rare occasion where he takes a job for someone, with his naïveté about many locales, but that can't be right.
Anyway, I think there's enough to work with to conceive a prequel that covers landmark moments spanning the years from his youth to the months before the Bafford's scepter job. The first games each spanned months, while TDS spanned, what, 9 days? And there were the months and years in-between the games (as stated by the devs and promotional texts, though I'd love to be able to quote them right now). It would have to be treated like a collection of short stories, rather than a full novel, and it would be difficult to keep from making it a character-study of Garrett, whose mystery is important to retain within the games. I think if it was a study of the Keepers in their waning prime as seen through Garrett's jaded eyes it could be interesting.
