I agree to the extent that Gameplay has to be spot on but thats no reason why a good story should come secondary. I think that the accumilation of story and gameplay should be exemplary, Just like the Thief series :thumb:
Oh!, I don't mind, if a game has a good story as well. Just, if the game is good, and the story stupid, I don't mind at all, because first and foremost I play the game and not the story. That's why I said that the story is seocndary for me. It's a bonus. I enjoyed Painkiller quite a lot and I also liked the cutscenes, but I never connected these two. Nowhere in the game, did I feel as if I would play something like the main character. I just played a very atmospheric shooter and if the exaplanation, why I'm there at all, would have been different, or not existend, I would also have enjoyed it. :) It's probably a bit different for adventures and RPGs, but I don't consider Thief in as such, so it doesn't matter to me. :)

Sounds like a plan but I would prefer it if Garrett was the central role I.e Intro cutscenes could show Garrett training the girl while he adds commentary.
Then the first couple of missions could be the girls solo field jobs where she becomes dominated by an evil, Keeper spirit locked up in glyphs, a Hammerite priest with a powerfull spell, a pagan god or becomes involved in a Mechanist splinter group - a few examples. and so the story shifts to Garrett where he has to find out what has happend to his apprentice while doing what he does best in order to fund his quest.
That doesn't sound so bad, as long as Garrett is only rescuing here or something. To me the ending of TDS, signaled that Garrett is retiring. Otherwise, why would he have taken on the girl in the first place? Of course, his motivation could have been similar as in the movie "Leon" ((
http://german.imdb.com/title/tt0110413/)) where the killer also takes a girl with him, but then it would need some more background for the girl, to explain such a relationship.

I also believe there should be a guest star apperance (or more) from Zaya, T2X Shadows of the metal age.
Well, since it would be a FM campaign, that shouldn't be a problem. :)

The fan community should band together and create a FM campaign for Thief 3 just like T2X for Thief 2.
That way you can put what you want in it, apperances of Garrett and Zaya?

Sorry for Graveddiging and Necromancy :P
I think that something like Batman Beyond ((
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Beyond)), with an old, veteran, and unable to steal Garrett, and his apprendice, now at the peak of her carreer, would make a good Thief 4.
The problem, i think, is what company would make such game, and even if that's solved the big question is :
Will they screw the game up like it has been done in Thief 3? I hope not.
Anyway, it can also be an FM pack to any of the other Thief's, and I'd suggest: Thief 3, as it does have a good graphics and a Hammer/Pagan reputation system , or Thief 2 because the simplicity to edit the hand graphic.

Answer for the poll : No. Garrett's story has beeen beautifully concluded and I don't want to see it to fall into abyss of mediocrity. We have enough FMs and their authors know perfectly what the fans of the series want, while makers of a commercial sequel would have to make necessary compromises for the general audience, which would in turn cause more unhappy fans. However I'm not against the idea of a sort of re-boot of the series featuring some honest medieval thievery as long as it will have new hero, story and setting (I presented idea of a realistic thief RPG/simulator before, more realistic than Thief itself. But such things don't have big commerical potential.)
The legacy lives on.

I was hoping for a sequel but looking at it now I'm not so sure since T3 is pretty much a conclusion.
What would be really great is a prequel, maybe set somewhere between T1 and T2 or T2 and T3.

As long as most of the fan missions imhhho don't really capture the feeling of the original missions, I'll always look forward to a new official game. After all, they cannot do more than screw it up in a way that we all simply ignore it.

True that, brother! :cheeky:

Beleg Cúthalion on 2/8/2008 at 06:12
There are quite a lot hidden pages on ttlg lately I believe. This thread showed 126 replies, maybe there should be one on page six already.
