You wouldn't say that if you'd played the demo. Unless you have played the demo, in which case you have some explaining to do.

4. Quite possibly not optimized for the PC. Ten times as much effort will be put into polishing it up for the console than the PC version. Why? Because they can patch. So on 12/2/03 when it ships, even with the fastest rig out there, the Xbox version will most likely beat it hands down.
DX2 is most definitely NOT optimized for the PC, and 100% of IS's effort went into creating a game for the xbox.
This is NOT a PC game. This is a console game that has been ported to the PC.
My sig says it all.

Morrowind was made for the PC first. It was then ported to the X-Box later. It was not made with an X-Box port in mind.

1) Re: Interface designed for a console: False.
The interface is just as crappy on the XBox as on the PC (from what I'm hearing). I can't tell you how many times I've hit the wrong buttons tyring to do something (i.e. I keep hitting "A" to upgrade my bio-mods in the bio-mod screen instead of "Y", yet you hit "A" to install the biomod once you've opened the biomod install screen for the biomod you selected.)
2) Re: Mod Community will suffer: False.
They released a SDK for the original and almost nothing was created for it (esp. compared to the Theif series). XBox doesn't prevent PC variants from being Modded... and knowing how many games are modded to some point now, it would be foolish to not allow a game to be modded (though this group isn't doing real well in the no-so-foolish area the way some people are talking).
3) Re: DX9 Features: hmmm.
You've already got people bitching about their old DX7 and 8 cards not being able to run this game, how do you think people would have greeted it if it where to only support DX9 features... and to write them in and not support them, well... that can cause more instability problems too.
4) Re: Shorter game:
Most games are comming up short these days. It's a combination of the detail they're putting into the levels, size of each level, lazyness on the part of the developers, and in many cases Multiplayer.
5) Re: PC Optimization:
This might be an issue, but this issue comes up with just about every game, and part of that I think has to do with the testing process. The original ran great on the Voodoo cards (3DFX) but sucked on just about everything else... why? That's what it was developed for. Patches fixed it up (at least some) later. (my original copy pre-patched had a memory leak that would lockup the computer, crash the game, and on top of it all, would lock up every other run). This too, isn't really an XBox problem, it's a lack of variety of test machines. This is where public and semi-public betas come in handy.
6) Re: Console games are dumbed down and Ugly:
Splinter Cell, Halo, Morrowind, and KotOR. Splinter Cell has dynamic lighting (more so than DX:IW, you can shoot out lights there) and large levels. Halo is very pretty, and smart too. Morrowind only lost some of the view depth (to keep the framerate up) and the journal updates with the GOTY version (which I still think they could have done in some way or another). KotOR is pretty, has farily large leves, lots of depth and gameplay, and all those nifty RPG elements. I do cringe whenever I find out that a game that's comming out on the XBox that looks interesting is cross-platform with the PS2, then it's usually not as pretty as it should be.
If DX:IW has been dumbed down, it's not the XBox who did it, but Ion Storm. If they did dumb it down, it might have been to give it a broader appeal... more sales = more money. They have to feed their kids too ya'know.
I'm one of those who bought an XBox because many of the PC titles that I wanted to play are comming to the XBox also (or where already out). My whole system would have to be replaced (short of the monitor, and I'm not sure how much longer that will last). I have a 4GB HD, a 32MB Radeon (one of the originals, and PCI to boot), and an e-Machines tower/motherboard. The $150 for the referb XBox was a much better deal considering my PC works fine for everthing else I do. I just can't play some of the newer RTSes.
