I've found that no-one stands a chance against the incinerate spell. Man, woman and beast are all sent to the great barbeque. It seems to me as well, that you shouldn't be able to cast level 9 or 10 spells until you are at least 9th or tenth level yourself. I don't think that this spell is too powerful for 9th or 10th level mages, but for a first level mage, it really removes any difficulty whatsoever from combat.

Probably it was included in the demo so we could see a cool looking offesnive spell. And the image of a dog exploding improved this game in my eyes immeasurably.

How do you cast that incinerate spell? I thought the demo only had ignite and infravision.

If you've got all four runes, open your spell book and go to page 9 or 10 (there are tabs on the left of your book). Also, keep in mind that some runes become different runes if cast from the opposite direction.

Thanks :) But when I try to target the spell it seems to fizzle out. I can draw the runes with no problem but when I click the targetting cursor on something, nothing happens. It only worked once on a guy in the bar. Can it only be used on people and goblins, that sort of thing? I tried it on the animals in the outpost but they didn't seem to be valid targets either.

Glic, it IS a level 9 spell, I think your spellcasting skill just wasn't high enough to cast it reliably. So most of the time it fizzled, and a few times it worked. It's the same way in underworld, except you get more feedback when the spell doesn't work (perhaps that's a good idea to add?)
And as far as I can tell, it works on everybody. I started a game, and pumped everything into Mental, then extra skill points into Lockpick. As a side-effect, I also had a high spellcasting skill. So, I
Unlocked the door in the bar
and sure enough the guy there could be incinerated too.

hmmmm..... nerfers (ptuey) already. If you think it's too powerful then... DON'T USE IT. Please try to refrain from dictating how others might enjoy playing the game.

maybe if you get your spell backward (or any annoying feedback) when you perform an critic fail, will you hesitate to use high level spell in spite of you're yet too weak...
Zerker on 9/3/2002 at 16:25
No, I think the general consensus is to have an experience level requirement for high level spells so you're not incinerating everything in sight at the beginning of the game. That's the way Underworld worked, anyhow.
