OK, so I started a poll (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76292) based on the demo and so I only think it's fair to ask those who've played it through what they think now.
Please only respond if you've finished the full game, or if it's genuinely finished you part way through.
Yes, of course this poll is biased since those who disliked the demo are unlikely to have bought the full game, but even so it should be interesting to see the response.
I won't be buying until at least its February European release, and possibly never, based on my own feelings for the demo, so I can't vote.

Hmmm, that's funny, I actually agree with all of the things said in the poll except the top and bottom choices.
I'm mostly happy and think it's a worthy successor. There are things that could have been a lot better, and I would have preferred a more faithful but enhanced sequel. But overall, good.

I don't feel it's a good sequel, as I feel it takes so many steps back. It's no disaster, though, and I do think they did some things right.

Yeah, sorry, it's hard to give suitably differentiated poll options, which don't generalise too much.

There's always room for improvement. My vote goes in the second radio box.
My main problem with the game is that most of its good secrets are revealed without a lot of suspension. In a roughly 10 hour play experience, it's difficult for me to gain any kind of sense of security to be shattered by a radical plot change. Deus Ex 1 had a good pace among the many and lengthy missions, steadily dripping out sweet morsels of plot development and mystery. Yes, Alex D is a very powerful agent, but I'm a bit disappointed that he/she stopped more world conspiracies in the period of (for me) one day. Yikes.
I do admire the replayability, from different perspectives and with different augs, but DX1 had a lot of replayability that the team didn't seem to have worked too hard to create -- the game was just lengthy, with lots of decisions to be made (credit to the writers goes here for their excellent work). I wish Deus Ex 2 could've had traits of both games only in this regard. If so, it would have been a perfect score from me.

Aye, I didn't have many problems with the much-discussed gameplay changes--if it had simply been a lot longer, and if the levels themselves had been much bigger, it would have been great. As it is, it feels more expansion-packy, which is by no means a bad thing in my book, just would have liked more.

As an RPG fan this game doesn't quite make the grade with its RPG elements. My character really had all the Biomods i needed half way through the game... although the amount of choice involved in the game is where that side of things perks up.
As a stealth fan A LA splinter cell and Thief... DE: IW has some pretty interesting gameplay highlights, yet still manages in the end to be a little too "game like" and not really realistic... even the physics, although fun, don't seem to be realistic...
AS a shooter fan, the action in this game seems a little half arsed... and not really what I would expect from an Unreal based game.. from an xbox perspective Unreal-based Rainbow six is an excellent shooter WITH A LEAN BUTTON - which would have made IW that much better...
But apart from the negatives.. I still enjoyed this game... I must say that the Seattle part of the game is by far the best (if only the rest of the game could have maintained for the rest of the storyline).
For my part I feel that the game was a little rushed, but it is a good looking game, yet there is at least some fun to be had.
It doesnt have the depth of the original, but it also improves upon what I felt was a clunky interface, and although it was quite anticlimactic on more than one occassion I believe it deserves some merit for some of the experiences it provides. No its not the best game ever...and some people were hoping it was going to be, myself included, but it is better than alot of games.
Personally I'd rather play all the elements seperately at this point... Morrowind - System Shock2 - Halo - Splinter Cell - Rainbow Six and throw in some more Halo while I'm at it.
I am playing this on an Xbox - and I'd like to say that I am both a PC gamer and an Xbox gamer ( i don't like other consoles =)) and the conception that all Xbox owners can't appreciate complex gameplay elements or deep story lines is something that really ticks me off... thus when reading most of the threads in this forum the veins in my forhead almost pop out and strangle me...
The argument I am making in defense of xbox owners has been made before so I wont bother rehashing it.
- back to work.

They could have kept all the graphics and interface the same as the original Deus Ex. Just throw me more cutscenes, new weapons, new tools, new locations, and new missions and I would have been happy.
Invisible War is a a great game, but it could have been better with the "if it ain't broke--don't fix it" approach.

I agree that they could have done that (heck, they wouldn't have even needed more items), but the problem is that most people would be complaining about how terrible the graphics look, how dated the game is, and how there wasn't any progress or improvement between the two. (not that I'm saying some of these things can't/aren't said now)
Evey time a review comes up for a game based off the original Half-life engine, one thing you can almost be sure to find is a comment about it's dated look (even if the game's engine has been tweaked and the game looks great). Same goes for IceWind Dale 2, reviewers complaining about the "dated" engine (yet it works well).
I used to get Comptuer Gaming Magazine (I think that's the correct title), anyway, one of the guys (the guy?) who wrote Tropico was commenting on this type of isse with games... he uses a 2D, 3/4 Isometric, sprite based engine for that game (and it's sequal)... and one comment often made is about the "dated" look.
Sadly most of the game industry hasn't figured out just to make good games and flip-off the reviewers and such. Here's to hoping....

Vote Good. I like it better than the original but it was clearly released in an unfinished (but highly playable state). My only complaints were in the areas of length and difficulty, and good but not-up-to-the hype AI and physics. Everything else I loved about the game.
edit: oh an performance is still shit but again that didn't stop me from loving the game
