I like the origami to look at, though it wouldn't be something I'd do; and I think it can be very soothing to do something repetitive sometimes. Tasks like weeding, washing dishes, folding laundry etc can be good times to just feel sensory things, or to think of complicated things too--two ends of the seesaw.
I love the crocheted coral reef, my MIL does knitting and is a biologist, I'll have to send her that link.
I've heard that corvids are very intelligent birds, I think they can do simple math for instance. Birds are smarter than people think. Did you get to birds through dinosaurs, since they're related?
Politics are interesting, but not obsessive to me. I was a first level delegate for Clinton in my state. Now I'm content to watch and wait to see how things turn out. I'm not completely happy with any of the candidates, but it's out of my hands now.

Whatever I'm playing at the moment. No FAQ, guide or forum is safe.
This. Only less productive. I spent hours finding the 'right' plugins for Morrowind, getting them all lined up right in WryeMash, making sure the whole deal was updated, etc. Then I reinstalled the whole thing to make sure I could do it again if I needed to. Then I backed up the disks to the hard drive.
I played for about 10 hours (not consecutively) before real life came callin'. Then my hard drive got corrupted. Ain't been back since. The saddest thing is that if I do want to play Morrowind again in the future (and I do feel the call now and then), I'll probably go out looking for everything all over again rather than rely upon a 'build' of Morrowind that I only half-remember doing... but it's more likely that I'll relax enough and just run off my backup of the Morrowind folder. But something will always nag at me, that somehow, this build is 'dirty.'
Strangely enough, it's the fierce and inpenetrable cloud of mods available for Oblivion, and the promise, conflicts, fixes, and neat things they all hold that have to be taken in, measured, balanced, and applied that keep me from buying the full thing, expansion packs included, not the $50 price point.
Of late I have also become a bit obsessed with backing every bit of precious data I have up to multiple redundancies, and then securing them in safe environments. I have an intricate network of backups, including external hard drives, numerous CD-ROMS and DVDs. Particularly those oh-so-fragile Thief Gold and Thief II CD-ROMs.
The above paragraph sounds worse and more obsessive than it is, though. I'm just backing up more than one form of media, and placing all my years of acquired data in central, easily backed up locations. (We're talking around 100 GB (CD images included) total, with maybe less than 10 GB of truly irreplacable data. Not that much. But compare this to maybe a gig at most that I had 10 years ago.) Once I have it all set up, maintenence will be a few minutes a month.
But still, how is this normal?

Lately, I've been obsessed with (
http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Anthony_Bourdain) Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations television show. I've also been addicted to (
http://www.gordonramsay.com/) Gordon Ramsay. Mostly just his Kitchen Nightmares show.
Anthony seems to have the same sort of lust for food that I have, but he knows how to cook much better than myself. He also will eat almost anything people hand him. There was one episode where he went and traveled with bushmen in Africa. They had ostrich eggs, which Anthony started to get excited about, but then they cooked the eggs scrambled into the dirt and fire. You take out the egg when cooked, and brush off the dirt and ashes. He didn't cringe or seem the least bit unhappy to the bushmen, even though he was disgusted with the meal. Then later on, they made a special treat for him. They had a warthog anus they barely cleaned of feces, and cooked it in the same fashion. Anthony declared it a bit chewy, but was very nice about the whole thing. He knew he didn't want to offend the generosity of these people. They were used to this kind of food, and it was a treat to them. His visits to other more normal countries are always something to see. I long for Chinese food after his visit to China. There's always something interesting he finds on all his visits around the world.
Gordon Ramsay seems like the biggest asshole in the world when you first encounter some of his shows. You realize after an entire episode that he is only really passionate about good food. He doesn't stand for bad conditions in the kitchen, or terrible cooking. He makes the chefs return to basic cuisine sometimes to make them realize food doesn't have to be complicated or tiny to be considered delicious.
I'm hungry now. :(

I've been dealing with a rather annoying bout of what, I presume, is obsessive compulsive disorder, manifesting itself in the need for an above average level of cleanliness (particularly with respect to my clothes). The kitchen has been my main concern for the past month or so, and I find myself regularly polishing chrome faucets and whatnot in addition to cleaning just about anything that probably doesn't need to be cleaned. The fridge just underwent a major cleaning earlier in the week, and that's just an uphill battle in the worst sense. I don't even fully understand why it doesn't stay clean, but it doesn't. Aggravating.
On the one hand, the behavior isn't causing any problems with time or with my schedule or anything, so it's relatively harmless, but on the other hand, it's probably on target for eventually being debilitating if I don't manage to keep it in check. I doubt I'll ever lose sleep about this thing or the other not being as clean as I'd like, but I guess you never really know.
I've always had little tendencies, but I don't think they're ever been quite as overbearing as they've seemed to become in the past couple months. I guess I can easily enough justify it by the fact that people who come over prefer that the place be clean and in relative order, and that makes a positive impact in its way, but I'm probably overemphasizing the importance of it. I'd do it even if I locked myself in for a week, I think.
It keeps me busy though. At my age, I don't really need much downtime to keep my head about me, and it makes those rare lazy days all the better.
So, my obsession right now? Order. The slightest hints of chaos are just too unnerving.

Would you come and clean my place? I can't be arsed doing it myself.
