If you drop down inside the cell and use yourself as a human shield while incapacitating the MiB and MJ12 guard in the room it should work. I'll let you know!
Well I gave it a go. I've got as far as disarming the MJ12 troop, who still activates the alarm but can't disarm the MiB. I only have a Stealth Pistol, scoped so the laser is borked and Vision instead of Targeting so it's too difficult to only hit his arm, especially as he's running around and his plasma rifle is blinding me. :(
Edit: I also gave using the Flamethrower a try. I gave the MiB a toast, which keeps him busy but isn't enough to kill him, disabled the trooper but then couldn't disable the MiB.
I just got there with a Rifle game and tried again. I did a lot better but still no joy. I disabled the MJ12 troopers in the area and the MiB but couldn't incapacitate the Commandos. Tiffany is standing around in the room with the cell inside but when she goes to run to Jock, she sees a troop/commando and gets panicked and runs back into the room. On a couple of occasions she's made a break for it only to be gunned down by the Commandos near the truck. It's technically possible but vanishingly unlikely that she would make a break for it, not see any troops and not be spotted by the Commandos. Officially giving up on saving Tiffany and not KO/killing anyone.

Ahh yes, I remember my no-kill/ko playthrough... I just let Tiffany get wasted. I tried to get her out, but she runs too slow and often in the wrong direction. One time when I was playing the gas station, a commando spotted me and opened fire... Unfortunately for him he was standing near the gas pumps. He caused the ceiling to collapse on himself. Of course I could not stop laughing!

On my last playthrough of Deus Ex I did a no knockout/no kill walkthrough and encountered a few trouble areas that were disappointing. One was the Tiffany Savage rescue that I attempted to do by throwing gas grenades everywhere. Unfortunately, Tiffany runs right into the gas clouds; so that didn't work. The other one was the shifty mechanic, I confronted him and then shot him until he ran away. Afterward, I could have sworn I had the conversation with Jock about disabling the bomb. When I reached Area 51, he blew up anyway; so I'm not sure what happened there.

That one's impossible: the missionscript that kills Jock checks for the _dead flag that the dodgy mechanic sets (when he dies, obviously). No other outcome is possible, so you might as well KO him as "a lesser of two evils" compromise (since the _dead flag gets set there too, and the MS doesn't care about the _unconscious flag).

I had a feeling that was the case because I remember a playthrough years ago where I could have sworn Paul lectured me about killing people when I only shot everyone with tranq darts. I tried to see if I could replicate this after talking to people here when I last had Deus Ex installed; but after tranquilizing all NSF on Liberty Island, Paul congratulated me on a good job. Either this was something that was fixed in the patch, a bug unique to the demo, or I killed some people during that playthrough and didn't realize it.

My philosophy is "Avoid confrontations and hurt nobody to the point where they don't hurt you. After that, free to kill..."

Maybe you could use pepper spray on them?

^that's a good idea... I'll have to try it next time I play DX. As for the odd mechanic, why not just shoot one of the barrels next to him and turn him into dog food? :) It's amusing to see a giant explosion right next to a helicopter that is unharmed. Perhaps you could also take a few shots at (morgan?) (the name escapes me) in the lab and get him to chase you upstairs and cause him to kill the mechanic. That's more of an exploit though I guess.

I think shooting an explosive barrel that blows someone up counts as "killing them"
DDL on 15/11/2008 at 18:16
Believe it or not, even the game would count that as a kill for you: if you shoot a barrel, you become the barrels 'instigator', and when the barrel explodes and kills someone, it uses its instigator as the 'pawn delivering the damage'.
You can get some quite ridiculous chain explosions sometimes that still manage to propagate the fact that it was "you what done it".
