Thief isn't in the "middle ages" in the Earth sense. It's an entirely different world with its own rules. It's a fantasy game. There aren't ratmen or bugbeasts in the real world either.

Well, I'm french "from France" and IMHO french voices are so perfect, Garrett sounds so good and funny sometimes (Benny...).
The actors that are playing the Thief characters are well-known in the french dubbing scene and their talent is recognized.
Well I have no clue how you can stand it (and I am also from France), but good for you if you can. To me the french actors are clearly over acting, but it might just be that the game is old, that type of voice acting was more common back then, but even back then I found it horrendous, it feels like the voice actors had either taken their roles too seriously or not seriously at all.
And I don't know, may be it's also tied to what you heard the first time you went through the game, but to me the way the english actors played isn't even just better but also part of the game's identity, I mean the guards voices, the Hammerite's way of speaking, it's so good it's inprinted in my brain at that point.

Yeah sure he isn't the Trickster, yet I'd say he is still scary. Karras has power, the trust and admiration of a lot of people (I'd say Truart was at least a bit scared of him), and his machines everywhere. I mean give the nuclear codes to a dork and he will become scary quite fast, even more so if there isn't really anyone capable of stopping him. I'd even say the Trickster is more predictable than Karras because he is more rationnal.
And may be it's just me but I found Soulforge to be partly as scary as The Haunted Cathedral, with all those machines and contraptions everywhere trying to get you while madman Karras taunts you in the background.

And that right there is the problem. If the ruler sounded or acted like that, i would just have rushed and bashed his head in, take over power. solidsnakeroll, what was you first reaction on soulforge om when you came to the room karras was locked in??? and you wernt able to do a single thing to him, that is why karras was so great, not even viktoria or her people could get karras

Thing is, Thief dabbles in parody and self-mockery, with influences from the Monty Python, and does so without breaking its lore or its setting. So, yeah as you said dinosaurs in middle ages is just stupid, but then what are dragons if not dinosaurs ? That's the whole joke about burricks. That's not the only thing out of place in the game, like the fact that they have electricity, that the bears of the bear pits have to use razor collars, cheek spikes and paw hooks to be able to fight "They just don't make bears like they used to" I mean..isn't that stupid too ? Yet it's part of the game and what makes it great.
It tried to be original, give something new while toying with fantasy tropes and still making sense in its own lore.

Sounding funny and being full blown crazy doesn't mean you are weak. Karras is untoutchable, the more you progress into Thief 2 the more power he grasps, the nobles and the Mechanists think he is a genious and a messiah from god...you'd have to be even more crazy and powerfull than him to be attempting a coup !
Even in the last level you can't toutch him, only he can kill himself with his own crazy inventions.
Personnaly I find the robots are both ridiculous and terrifying, but well, to each their own.

Biggest question is... does he get robots to bring him food or something?.
But it was weird since i tried to get the guy to detect me but i think he just ignored me.

Imagination vs time period is different. See Super Mario is not realistic so its fine if they do that.
But Thief is set in middle ages, dinosaurs doesnt exist in that time period. I can kinda accept Lizard people from Thief 3 since there has always been conspiracies on human shape shifting lizards (Or back then they would be more known as "Nagas", if you've played Warcraft 3 you would know. But actual dinosaurs is where i cross the line. Those are extinct, unless this is Jurassic Park or something.

Well i am cool with dragons, dragons comes from the bible and is a mythological being like Behemoth etc. Those are just made up beasts and is part of human imaginations. But theres difference between that and actual dinosaurs
The only dinosaurs i am cool with in this day and age are crocodiles and chickens (Because ehem they are related to them)
