Do they officially sell a version of SS2 with no "CD in drive" requirement to run it? - by lost_soul

Right... So I played the demo of this game a few years ago and I am in the mood to play some older games that I missed. I remember seeing someone say that "Sold Out Software" was selling SS2 with no CD check, is that true? I want to install the game onto an external 1 TB hard drive, which I can move between PCs and my laptop to play.

I was of the impression no one officially sells it? Well, you can try to buy it on ebay, har har har har
There are solutions, of course, but you would have to be very immoral.

SS2 is basically portable once it has been installed. The game itself doesn't require the CD, and it's generally necessary to remove the safedisc protection in order to get it to run on modern computers anyway.

If you catch his drift. Actually, it wouldn't be; because only EA owns it and they don't care about System Shock.

Irrelevant wishful thinking. Getting away with it doesn't nullify the legal or ethical issues. EA's indifference is not permission. This is not to say one would not get away with it, but until an official statement is made, it is illegal and unethical.

And actually, EA does care a little about SS2 (or, rather, the IP that SS2 represents); as soon as System Shock: Rebooted started showing significant promise, EA jumped on it and shut it down.
