Dunno if this is it's intended pupose, but I found the lock spell to be really helpfull in training myself in security(expescially early in the game). Spell it locked. Pick it open. Repeat.

Early on I thought it might be good for securing doors so that nasties couldn't come in behind me... of course, scripted events w/ enemies just "teleport" in, and most monsters don't wander very far in dungeons, so I was forced to recognise it has no profound tactical usage.
Edit: I suppose if you're hurting you can run, close and then lock the door behind you, and then take off in safety... but who has the time to do all that when the enemy's right on your tail?

I hope I don't lose stuff I have caves and houses loaded with stuff I have ripped off... lots of weapons and armor that I got from treasure vaults, stores, mansions, and people. I did have to restart game though... the first time I was going through and didn't do any of the quests... I was just wandering the whole map hacking and slashing and selling stuff and finally deceided to try some of the quests and discovered that I had already taken and sold some key items (like the Puzzle box and the Tax Rolls scroll and some other things) .. I looked all over trying to find the various stores I sold them but never could find any of the items... Finally deceided to start over...

Nah, barring strange events (like a bag appearing where your eq is because you loaded a plugin), the only thing you should be careful of is putting things into containers (chests/bags/etc.) that had stuff in them. Some people have reported said containers have eaten the user-provided contents. On the other hand, I turned Vivec's FQ plaza into my own personal junk yard, and noone ever took anything.

Some containers reset over time... I noticed this when I lived inside the balmora camona tong hideout. I was moving in from my old spot(fighters guild room with the bunk beds). I put some stuff into a sack and left to get more stuff. I came back to find it with some usual scuttle in it, but the stuff I put in dissapeared. I decided to test if what I thought had happened so I put a glass longsword in there.
I waited a couple minutes, opened the bag again, and the sword was gone, but there was scuttle in it.
On another note, ever since I downloaded the patch... everytime I install a new plugin, I will usually find static objects duplicated... like doors, waving flag thingies, and misc items that were on shelves that I removed earlier. I have been giving the disable command a heavy workout.
