Question: I think I had some goods stolen from me, off my person, by a thief who trained me in security! Is this something that happens in the game?
Anyone else experience this? Will I be able to find the item (Dwemer Puzzle Box) at through bartering at a Thieve's Guild or is it time to stat over?
Any ideas?

You can leave a Deadric dai Katana in the open, anywhere and it's there when you come back. Some chests or barrels, the ones that have stuff in them when you find them, will refill after a time, or so I hear and anything that was in there before, has vanished. Just find a chest that is empty when you find it, and fill it up, nobody steals. Or just leave stuff lying around in the open, ona desk, on the floor, wherever. Nobody has stolen any of my stuff yet.
This aspect could have easily been improved. To check the massive money you accumulate once you've captured some choice equipment, theives could randomly take your stuff. While you sleep, while you're away from your stash. The game would be a lot more interesting if your security skill also protected your stuff (as the name would seem to suggest) so if you went to sleep in a field, you could wake up with your powerful magical artifacts have been stolen. Or if the Ordinators or Council Guards shook you down, confiscated your equipment or demanded bribes. It's just way too easy to accumulate money and equipment over time, and that takes the fun away. If your stuff was stolen every so often, that would be more dynamic and interesting.

That's exactly what I think happened to me, though... I think. I was trained by a tiger woman who was a member of the Thieve's Guild in security (I forget the real name for the tiger race), and after my training I was missing the Puzzle Box, a sword, and some misc. items!
Is this a bug? OR did I get legitimately ripped off? I hope I was ripped off, both because I totally agree with you that shakedowns, pickpocketing, bullying, etc. would add an element of realism to the game and keep the conspicuous amounts of cash you collec t at higher levels down a bit, as you said.
I'm wondering if I am just an idiot and forgot that I dropped or sold teh box, rather than if it were stolen (which is probably the case, I have played until completely bleary-eyed and mind-numb for the past two days). I am in COMPLETE agreement about the Security skill, it seem opposite to what its name implies and until I consulted the Guidebook, I thought I was low in the Security skill, therefore was being taken advantage of...
Anyhow, I suppose it's no hair off my cahones to start over... I'd just like to know if Thieves are thieving from me or if I dropped 'em somewhere in the boonies...!

Hmm.. is it at all possible that, bleary-eyed as you were, you simply re-loaded a save from before you'd obtained the cube? I know I've done that a few times, and kicked myself later.

Here's another possibility. You were nicked by the Law, and they took your "stolen" items, even if they were stolen way back when (although I don't think the puzzle box fits into that category).
The other one is that the developers put in thievery and random loss of stuff into the game without telling anyone. This happened numerous times to me. I lost a perfectly good Dreugh shield like that, for no apparent reason (and many others).
Finally, it may be a bug. I'd wager you have to restart, at least for the puzzle box :(
I came up against this problem in other forums, and no one ever had a good explanation. The "reload you forgot" is as good as any other, too....

I've had items dissapear off my character sometimes... The ones I've noticed are mainly notes, or papers... like Apoligy to Trebonius, and Recomendation letter to Nheluftfdsd(sp?)
I used to think that they dissapeared when I'd hear a random item sound while walking or standing (sometimes, I'd be walking through vivec or someplace, and I'd here a chink sound, like a ring, or the paper sound, like when you pick up a book or scroll) I'd always check my inv to see if there was anything missing, but there was always so much stuff, I couldn't tell.

I noticed that noise too but I just thought it was a bug. I never noticed anything missing.

Same thing happened to me today...I lost about 5 great soul gems after I trained about 50 security. Its the guy at Council club who rips off I think...he's dead!

I 'took over' two houses in balmora, and I just kept packing stuff in there, it was starting to look really cool (Like a wizard or alchemists workshop) then one day when I came back from looting a Dwemer ruin I noticed this big ugly bag sitting overtop of all my jewels (Diamonds, Pearls, Emeralds, Rubies) When it clicked on it to see what I could do about it it opened up like a container, I found dozens of things that seemingly dissapeared from other ares of my house in the bag, unfortunetly I seemed to have forever lost my diamonds underneath the damned thing. :grr:
Another time on the same shelf with the ugly loot bag, I was scrounging through my soul gems (musta had several dozen lyin around) for two powerful ones so that I could build my house... well I grabbed a Winged Twighlight, and a Dremora, then a Hunger... however I put the Hunger back down because I figured I didnt need three expensive gems. Then I went outside and remembered that Dremoras dont work for the Stronghold, so I came back in and... My soul gem was gone!
I also find it rather annoying that I keep accidentally eating objects in my possesion, lets see what have I eaten before...?
Daedra's Heart
Ghouls Heart
Emerald
Ruby
Diamonds-I seem to lose most of the Diamonds I get if I hold onto them for more then a week :(
Pearls
Corprus weepings? Or maybe Scamp skin... they look kinda the same.
Although I dont think you swallowed that Puzzle box... but I do find it intriguing that I'm able to scarf down evil diseased things with almost no ill effects (That I know of anyway ;) )

Has anyone experienced any theft? cause I want to know what the hell the LOCK spell is for. Why do I need to lock anything?
