Well, they have different faction ratings towards you, set off different quests and use different sound files for you. Different enough?

Yes, deffinately. I had a nord make fn of me when i was a orc, he asked if i had seen any elves lately, and then laughed. If your not a dunmer, then people will refer to you as "outlander", but if you are a Kahjit, or even a argonian, people will treat you like a lesser form of S#$t, as they are the slave races.:ebil:

"You want somethin', Bosmer?"
"Can I help you, Altmer?"
"How may I please you, Cyrodil?"

and your race has slight effect on disposition (a nord will like a nord a little bit better)
also redguard males will hit on you if you're any female but an orc.

I don't think that's true, because I'm a wood elf, and the nords always say that to me too... which annoys me because I'm thinking "Er, yeah, everytime I look in the mirror, idiot..." ;)
One thing I've been dying to ask though (and this is a bit spoilerish) is since I'm playing a female character, and I recently decided to join House Hlaalu... well, those of you who have done it know how Crassius Curio treats the female characters.. how exactly does he treat the males?!?!?
I'm getting the impression from reading other threads that the progress through House Hlaalu (and probably other factions, I'm guessing) must be *quite* different depending on gender...
Forsythe on 6/8/2002 at 21:13
Hrm.. well, I played thru Hlaalu as a male, and I must say ol' Crassius plays both ends of the field, if you catch my drift.

Ahh this seems like an appropiate thread to ask this question.
I have noticed that my wood elf usually has his nose stuck in someones armpit.
Do the Nords and the others differ in hieght when you choose them as a characture?
Would I be taller as a Nord?

Ive noticed that if you are talking to somone of your own race they tend to have around 5 points better reaction to you.
I've also noticed that your height varies depending on race and sex too, a good way to check it out is when you get to the point of confirming your stats (dunting creation in sedya Neen), try changing your race or sex and your height will change as well.
Curiuos this is that Bosmer males are a around a foot shorter than the bosmer females....

I've noticed a number of NPC's making a sniffing noise when my Argonian is around, kind of like whats that smell.
