About including a reference to TTLG into the HOSTS file:
Quote Posted by Enchantermon
Right, but it still doesn't solve the DNS issues.
Strange. Is it possible that your system does not use the HOSTS file? Some use LMHOSTS instead, maybe even LMHOSTS.SAM (although that one is meant to be a
sample file only). So much for standards...:tsktsk:
Or did you mean it does fix
your problem with TTLG access, but the underlying problem of a DNS lookup fault somewhere is not solved? That's right, of course.

Enchantermon probably meant the server-side DNS lookup problem. That's something we can't do much about; Dave and Saam will need to work that out, either by getting a permanent fix or by taking up epithumia's generous offer.

This, as Sulphur said. It's treating the symptoms instead of the disease. Sure, it works, but the problem is still there.

Yes, there are problems again and yes, we will be looking into some sort of permanent resolution of this recurring problem.
And, of course, we are trying to get the present problem sorted out as soon as possible.
Edit. Apparently this latest hiccup is due to 'storms and consequent power outages in VA'.

For thiefmissions I just use the afraid.org free DNS secondary service. Easy to set up, costs nothing and just works.
I could also just host a DNS secondary if for some reason one of the free services doesn't work.

Thank you - I've mentioned your previous offer in the appropriate place!! :)
epithumia on 1/7/2012 at 06:29
Funny; I didn't even realize that I had given basically the same answer two years ago.
nickie on 1/7/2012 at 06:32
What a shame that offer wasn't taken up then!
BrokenArts on 2/7/2012 at 03:50
Well, this has to change, period. I'm tired of this, so are a lot of people. People will be talking to Saam and Dan about this, it has to change....and it will.

The suspicious bastard in me would wonder if it was an underhanded donation drive...
I don’t contribute to the craziness that is ttlg, but life and internet would be less interesting without the skewed perspective available through this manic, bipolar, kaleidoscope.
